Need to finish your high school credential? Carteret CC has several options to help you earn your Adult High School diploma, prepare for a high school equivalency test (GED® or HiSET®) and transition into post-secondary education and/or employment.

Search By Program
Students wishing to enroll in the HSE program must attend an orientation session. Registration for orientation is required.
All new students must bring to orientation:
- Picture ID with date of birth and signature
- Social Security card
Minor students aged 16 or 17 attending orientation must:
- Be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the first half hour of orientation
- Provide proof of high school withdrawal OR an official school withdrawal form
- An approved “Application to Attend Carteret CC Basic Skills Program” packet

AHS – It is necessary that Carteret Community College students regularly attend their classes in order to learn. According to our Affiliation Agreement with Carteret County Public Schools, all Adult High School students must complete a certain of hours per class. In order for a student to receive a credit, the student must be in class a specified number of hours; complete the individual class; and earn a passing grade of A, B, C, or D.
HSE – All new students must attend a mandatory HSE orientation session to enroll. These orientation sessions are offered several times throughout the semester. Once the student completes the HSE orientation, they will be referred to one or multiple HSE classes to prepare to complete the four content areas of the High School Equivalency program (Reading through Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Math). All students are expected to attend class for a MINIMUM of 10 hours per week. If a student has not attended any HSE classes for 90 days, they will be required to complete the HSE orientation session again.
Adult Basic Education
For individuals who need more assistance to get their skills to the high school level so they can obtain an equivalency degree, Adult Basic Education (ABE) provides instruction in reading, writing, math and technology skills.
