All of that changed when he started his food service technology (FST) classes at Carteret Community College this fall. Bright now looks forward to school, has improved his grades, secured a new part time-job, and has developed a better mindset when facing challenges. The food service technology program is just one pathway for students in Carteret County Schools’ exceptional children’s program, which Bright is a part of. Carteret Community College Foundation Raffles Grocery Shopping Spree Morehead City, N.C. (November 4, 2020) - The Carteret Community College Foundation is looking to spread holiday cheer this year by giving one lucky person a five-minute shopping spree at Lowes Foods of Morehead City. Carteret CC Foundation to Host Preserving Our Night Sky Presentation and Lecture Carteret Community College Foundation will host a free presentation and lecture at 4 p.m. on November 18, 2020 discussing the importance of preserving the dark skies. Attendees can participate in the event in person in Joslyn Hall or via Zoom. Those who wish to attend in person will need to reserve their seat, as Joslyn Hall can only hold a maximum of 35 people due to COVID-19 restrictions. EMS Graduate Saves A Life A recent graduate from the Carteret CC Emergency Medical Science program, Firefighter Paramedic Mark Rignola found his new paramedic skills put to the ultimate test. While on shift at the Morehead City Fire Department, a woman pulled into the parking lot beeping her horn and yelling for help. Her husband, also in the car, was suffering from a heart attack. Rignola assessed the patient and found him to be unresponsive, pulseless, and apneic. He immediately began CPR. “I knew we didn’t have much time and I needed to start CPR right away,” said Rignola. “In the moment I didn’t even have to think, my training just kicked into action.” With the arrival of additional crew members, responders worked together to provide immediate defibrillation, continuous CPR, and administration of Epinephrine. Carteret CC awarded nearly $1 million USDA grant Morehead City, N.C. (October 12, 2020) – Carteret Community College (Carteret CC) was awarded $960,546 from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) grant program. Carteret CC is one of 116 projects funded by through the USDA DLT grant program. The program helps health care and education institutions buy the equipment and software necessary to deploy distance-learning and telemedicine services to rural residents. Carteret CC awarded $130,822 to fund workforce training scholarships Morehead City, N.C. (October 6, 2020) – Carteret Community College (Carteret CC) was recently awarded $130,822 from the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund. These funds, awarded by the U.S. Department of Education, are to be utilized by Sept. 30, 2022, and will go toward scholarships for eligible students. Carteret CC Nursing Graduate Receives Service Excellence Award A graduate of the Associate Degree Nursing program at Carteret Community College, Ashley Noffke found employment at CarolinaEast shortly after graduating in May 2020.
