(May 20, 2021) – Carteret CC received approximately $1.6 million in additional Higher Education Emergency Relief Funding (HEERF). ALL students are eligible to apply for HEERF funding upon enrollment in a degree and/or continuing education program. With student consent, funds can be applied to any portion of their cost of attendance including tuition, fees, books, uniforms, and supplies related to their program or course. Students can also apply for funds to help cover the cost of childcare, housing, transportation, and more. SkillsUSA Students Advance to Nationals Six Carteret Community College students competed in the North Carolina SkillsUSA Championship April 19-23 and won big! Students competed virtually in the Culinary Arts, Diesel Technology, Cosmetology, and Medical Math categories. “In response to the pandemic, all meetings, conferences, and competitions were held virtually,” said Bena Weires, Carteret CC’s SkillsUSA advisor. “We are very proud of these students for their perseverance and success during these challenging times.” Courtney DuMarce, a Carteret CC Cosmetology student placed first in the Secondary Cosmetology competition and will advance to the National SkillsUSA Championship on Monday, June 14th. Carteret CC Offers Summer Camps to Middle and High School Students Morehead City, N.C. (May 11, 2021) – With summer right around the corner, Carteret Community College is looking to offer fun, educational opportunities to middle and high school students through summer camps. (April 16, 2021) –On April 28, 2021, Carteret Community College, NCWorks and the North Carolina Ferry System will hold a job fair. The job fair will take place at the new Big Rock Career Center, 3813 Arendell St. in Morehead City from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Some positions may be hired during the event. Carteret CC Accepts $50,000 Walking Trail Grant Challenge Morehead City, N.C. (April 6, 2021) – Carteret Community College Foundation has received a challenge grant of $50,000 from a generous Eastern North Carolina foundation to help build a walking trail on the College’s campus. (March 29, 2021) – Latecyia “Cece” Johnson, a junior at Marine Science & Technologies (MaST) Early College High School, has been named the Beaufort Teen Center Youth of the Year, Carteret County Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year, and runner up for the Boys & Girls Club of the Coastal Plain Youth of the Year. The Boys & Girls Club of the Coastal Plan honor earned her a $1,000 scholarship. Maritime museum specialist seeks college courses Morehead City, N.C. (March 26, 2021) – When Coronavirus shut down the state of North Carolina, the North Carolina Maritime Museum could not welcome visitors to its three locations across the state in Hatteras, Southport, and Beaufort. Jamee Rose, a Museum Specialist at the NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort, is responsible for designing and developing museum exhibits from maritime research and information. She quickly realized that the pandemic presented new difficulties in how to engage people who couldn’t come to their museum in-person. Rose had already taken a few classes at Carteret Community College in computer programming over the last few years.
