Carteret Community College Hosts Free Classroom Opportunity Morehead City, N.C. (March 2, 2022) – Carteret Community College (Carteret CC) invites the public to return to the classroom in its next lecture on March 3, 2022 at 6 p.m. in the Wayne West Building room 222. This lecture will explore the respiratory therapy field and what Carteret CC’s Respiratory Therapy students are learning. Trisha Miller, Carteret CC’s Respiratory Therapy Chair, will discuss Oxygen Transport, and how oxygen and carbon dioxide move between the lungs and tissues. A Second Chance with Basic Skills Traditional high school didn’t work out for Devin Roth. Neither did his family’s attempt at home-schooling.  After relocating from Connecticut to North Carolina and battling frequent periods of illness, Devin found himself in the difficult position of falling behind in his schoolwork and lacking support from his teachers. Frustrated with the situation, he dropped out of high school. Devin tried a semester of homeschooling, but was not engaged.  Then a close friend recommended the Basic Skills Department at Carteret Community College. “I didn’t have high hopes and was just looking for a means to an end,” Devin recounts. “But I trusted my friend and took his advice.” Devin enrolled in the College’s Adult High School program and found the support and encouragement he needed to earn his high school diploma. “The...

Minority Small Business Vendor Expos Morehead City, N.C. (February 11, 2022) – Beginning this month, the For ME (Minority Entrepreneur) Networking Group will host quarterly themed small business vendor expos on the campus of Carteret Community College. The first expo themed Black History Month Small Business Vendor Expo, will feature over 30 vendors and is scheduled for February 26th from 11 am - 3 pm in the McGee parking lot on campus. These For ME Networking Vendor Expos will provide local early-stage businesses with experience and a place to start their market research. Carteret Community College Celebrates Black History Month Carteret Community College will celebrate its 25th Annual Black History Celebration, themed “Black Health and Wellness,” on February 21 at 6 p.m. in the Civic Center. This is an annual event that celebrates the academic achievements of Carteret County’s exceptional young African Americans.  The in-person event is limited to student honorees and their families, but will be made available and streamed live for the public on the college's website. Isaac Blaine Smith CDL Scholarship It was a wonderful tribute to Isaac Blaine Smith when his niece, Dr. Michelle Bass presented the Board of Trustees with a scholarship in his memory. "Uncle Blaine was a truck driver all of his life," said Dr. Bass. "He drove almost a million miles before he was forced to retire due to a disability. His nickname was 'Running Empty'. This scholarship was established to honor his memory and his love of driving by helping other people achieve their dreams." Hands-on Carpentry Academy provides skills for workforce entry Hands-on instruction and taking the time to learn how to do things the right way safely are major benefits of taking Carteret Community College’s Carpentry Academy. A Very Merry, RAD Christmas It’s a very merry, RAD Christmas indeed! This holiday season the Carteret CC Radiography class of 2023 partnered with Home Instead, a senior care agency which assists senior residents in Carteret, Craven, and Pamlico counties. The class sponsored a “Be a Santa to a Senior” Christmas tree on campus. The tree featured ornament tags with seniors’ names and their wishes for Christmas. The class encouraged faculty and staff to participate and had an overwhelming response. Home Instead was asked to replenish name tags four times over the course of three weeks. The class was able to fulfill over 70 Christmas wishes! This humbling act of service will put a smile on everyone’s face just in time for Christmas. Meet Audra Luanne Rhinehardt Audra Luanne Rhinehardt, an Interventional Radiology Physician Assistant, began her journey with Carteret Community College in 2001. Originally from Davis, North Carolina, Rhinehardt began taking courses as a dually enrolled Cape Lookout Marine Science High School student.  She completed her Associate of Arts degree in 2005 before gaining acceptance into the Radiography program at Carteret CC. Three days after graduating from the program in 2007, Rhinehardt began her career as a Radiographer at the New Hanover Reginal Medical Center Orthopedic Hospital where she spent 13 years between the radiology department and cardiac catheterization lab, all while also working part-time at Medac Urgent Care in Wilmington. Rhinehardt’s ambition did not stop there. At age 29, she decided to begin her journey towards becoming a Physician Assistant. “To put it simply, I wanted to keep learning,”...
