Carteret CC Holds HBCU College Fair & Resources Day Morehead City, N.C. (March 10, 2023) - On Monday, March 13, 2023, Carteret Community College and its Black History Committee will hold a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) College Fair & Resources Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Hospitality & Culinary Arts Center on campus. This free in-person event is open to the community and encourages participation from high school students and their families to learn more about the opportunities available at HBCU and to celebrate the legacies and significant contributions they have made to the community and nation. Carteret CC Holds National Anthem Auditions Morehead City, N.C. (March 6, 2023) - Carteret Community College will hold open auditions to find a performer for the Nation Anthem at its 59th College Graduation, Award’s Night Ceremony, and Basic Skills Graduation this coming May. Auditions are open to the public and will be held on Thursday, April 13th at 3:00 p.m. in Joslyn Hall in the McGee Building on campus. To register for an audition, candidates will need to sign up online at the link provided here. Carteret CC Celebrates Black History Month Morehead City, N.C. (February 14, 2023) - Carteret Community College will celebrate its 26th Annual Black History Celebration on February 20 at 6 p.m. in the Civic Center. This is an annual event, open to the public, that celebrates the academic achievements of Carteret County’s exceptional young African American students at the 8th and 12th-grade levels and at Carteret Community College who have achieved outstanding academic excellence by having a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Carteret CC Earns National Accreditation for EMS Program Morehead City, N.C. (February 14, 2023) – The Emergency Medical Science program at Carteret Community College has achieved national accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) with no citations or violations noted. “Being accredited demonstrates that our program is consistent with the national standards for paramedic programs,” stated Christine Turner, chair of the Carteret CC EMS program. “In other words, our students are receiving the best education possible, and it will allow them to test for the National Registry, which means they can find employment as paramedics anywhere in the United States, and even in some regions overseas.” In addition to receiving national accreditation, the EMS program...

Second Installment in “Carteret Links” Lecture Series Morehead City, N.C. (February 14, 2023) – On February 28, 2023, the second installment of the Carteret Links health education lecture series will focus on suicide prevention. The lecture is open to the community and will take place from 6 – 8 p.m. in-person at Carteret Community College, with remote participation available at The Bridge Downeast, Western Carteret Library, and Fort Benjamin Park. (February 1, 2023) - Last June the North Carolina legislature released approximately 13 million dollars to enhance and build the state apprenticeship program. As a result, Carteret Community College received approximately $18,000 and appointed Dorean Knowles, a student in the Hospitality program, as their first registered apprentice. Shana Olmstead, Chairperson of Culinary, Hospitality, Baking & Pastry at Carteret CC, along with Peter Grills, General Manager of Beaufort Hotel, developed an ApprenticeshipNC-approved program that coordinates classroom and workplace learning to encompass all aspects of hotel management. (January 31, 2023) - The Carteret Community College Board of Trustees is asking for nominations for the Dr. Joseph T. Barwick Civic Award.  The award, created in honor of former Carteret CC President Joe Barwick, was developed to recognize the accomplishments of a Carteret County community volunteer. “We are looking for people who have demonstrated community involvement and social responsibility and have helped bring about positive and significant life changes for Carteret County residents,” said Melodie Darden, chair of the Board of Trustees. Former Beaufort Resident to Perform Music Concert Morehead City, N.C. (January 9, 2022) – Mary Mikels will be performing her Broadway Favorites & More concert at Carteret Community College on Friday, January 20, 2023. Born totally blind and with hearing loss in her left ear, Mikels is a soprano, and has been singing nearly her whole life.
