Gaitan Receives Governor’s NCWorks Award Morehead City, N.C. (July 21, 2021) – Carteret Community College graduate Makayla Gaitan is the recipient of the 2021 Governor’s NC Works Award of Distinction in the category of Outstanding Young Adult. The award recognizes young adults who have been involved in a publicly funded NC workforce service or program and have demonstrated exceptional achievement to attain career-related goals. Respiratory Therapy Program Receives Award Morehead City, N.C. (July 8, 2021) – On June 29, 2021, the Carteret Community College Respiratory Therapy program was awarded the Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapist Credentialing Success Award from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). FREE Tuition for Eligible 2021 High School Graduates at Carteret CC Morehead City, N.C. (June 14, 2021) – Carteret Community College will provide two years of free tuition for eligible 2021 high school graduates as part of the Longleaf Commitment Grant. An initiative announced on May 14, 2021 from the Governor’s office after historic drops in North Carolina’s higher education system in 2020. The statewide grant program is available at all 58 community colleges starting in the fall of 2021 with the goal of ensuring high school students do not fall out of the education pipeline. High school students may be eligible to receive this grant – not a loan – for tuition and fees toward a degree or to attain transfer credit. College Named As A Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education Morehead City, N.C. (May 24, 2021) – Carteret Community College (Carteret CC) was designated by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) as a Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education (CoE) for 2021. The CoE designation recognizes community colleges and training institutions that prepare students for careers in our nation’s maritime industry. Full Funding For All: All Students, All College Expenses Morehead City, N.C. (May 20, 2021) – Carteret CC received approximately $1.6 million in additional Higher Education Emergency Relief Funding (HEERF). ALL students are eligible to apply for HEERF funding upon enrollment in a degree and/or continuing education program. With student consent, funds can be applied to any portion of their cost of attendance including tuition, fees, books, uniforms, and supplies related to their program or course. SkillsUSA Students Advance to Nationals Six Carteret Community College students competed in the North Carolina SkillsUSA Championship April 19-23 and won big! Students competed virtually in the Culinary Arts, Diesel Technology, Cosmetology, and Medical Math categories. “In response to the pandemic, all meetings, conferences, and competitions were held virtually,” said Bena Weires, Carteret CC’s SkillsUSA advisor. “We are very proud of these students for their perseverance and success during these challenging times.” Courtney DuMarce, a Carteret CC Cosmetology student placed first in the Secondary Cosmetology competition and will advance to the National SkillsUSA Championship on Monday, June 14th. Carteret CC Offers Summer Camps to Middle and High School Students Morehead City, N.C. (May 11, 2021) – With summer right around the corner, Carteret Community College is looking to offer fun, educational opportunities to middle and high school students through summer camps.
