Carteret Community College Hosts Free Classroom Opportunity Morehead City, N.C. (March 2, 2022) – Carteret Community College (Carteret CC) invites the public to return to the classroom in its next lecture on March 3, 2022 at 6 p.m. in the Wayne West Building room 222. This lecture will explore the respiratory therapy field and what Carteret CC’s Respiratory Therapy students are learning. Trisha Miller, Carteret CC’s Respiratory Therapy Chair, will discuss Oxygen Transport, and how oxygen and carbon dioxide move between the lungs and tissues. Hands-on Carpentry Academy provides skills for workforce entry Hands-on instruction and taking the time to learn how to do things the right way safely are major benefits of taking Carteret Community College’s Carpentry Academy. According to Mr. Perry Harker, the College’s Vice President of Corporate and Community Education, the short-term training is ideal for several reasons. “This academy will prepare you for an entry-level job with a local company and you will earn a good wage,” said Harker. “This will give you the skills to join a career field with many opportunities to grow.” The short-term course meets three times a week for six weeks and industry veteran Skip Knittel teaches to National Center for Construction Education and Research standards. A Very Merry, RAD Christmas It’s a very merry, RAD Christmas indeed! This holiday season the Carteret CC Radiography class of 2023 partnered with Home Instead, a senior care agency which assists senior residents in Carteret, Craven, and Pamlico counties. The class sponsored a “Be a Santa to a Senior” Christmas tree on campus. The tree featured ornament tags with seniors’ names and their wishes for Christmas. The class encouraged faculty and staff to participate and had an overwhelming response. Home Instead was asked to replenish name tags four times over the course of three weeks. The class was able to fulfill over 70 Christmas wishes! This humbling act of service will put a smile on everyone’s face just in time for Christmas. Carteret CC Offers Local Employer Team Building Workshop Morehead City, N.C. (September 23, 2021) – Carteret Community College Corporate and Community Education sponsored a day long, interactive team building class for Rogers & Company, CPA and 30 of its employees. The purpose of the workshop was to create an awareness of behavioral characteristics of effective team collaboration. During one exercise, employees participated in a fun culinary challenge where they were divided into teams and made homemade pizza. Each team was responsible for preparing the dough and sauce from scratch with minimal help from college instructors.  The exercise mimicked real-life teamwork challenges to demonstrate what it takes to create and maintain a harmonious and productive work environment. Carteret CC Receives Tractor Trailer Donation Morehead City, N.C. (September 4, 2020) – On September 9, Carteret Community College will expand its Commercial Driver License (CDL) program by accepting a donation for an automatic tractor and refrigerated trailer from the Crystal Coast Country Club and its owner, PKS LLC, along with Ryder System, Inc. “We believe in this community and the college,” said Jason Wordsworth, president of PKS LLC.  “With this donation we hope that it will give the students an opportunity for success. From the citizens that complete the course and receive their CDL’s, to the mechanic program that can learn and physically work on the tractor, trailer, refrigeration and freezer unit. Therapeutic massage achieves 100% When the 2020 therapeutic massage graduates began the program in August 2019, their studies were interrupted by Hurricane Dorian. The last eight weeks of their final semester produced even greater educational struggles with the COVID-19 pandemic. In spite of those disruptions, the graduating class managed to complete all of their courses and achieve a 100 percent first-attempt passing rate on the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination, the North Carolina State Board licensing examination for massage therapists. By passing the exam, the new graduates are eligible to apply for their massage therapy license, after which, they can enter the workforce. “These students have had a lot to overcome during their time at Carteret Community College,” said Steven Koehler, Therapeutic Massage Instructor at Carteret Community College. “They managed to overcome the obstacles placed before them by...
