Basic Automotive Repair

Covers the theory, construction, inspection, diagnosis, and repair of automotive engines and related systems. Includes fundamental operating principles of engines and diagnosis, inspection, adjustment, and repair of automotive engines using appropriate service information. Upon completion, students should be able to diagnose, service, and repair various automotive engines including tear down and repair of cylinder heads, engine blocks, etc. Students will also learn bore and stroke design characteristics along with camshaft choices, cylinder head and intake usage, and proper exhaust design. Requires: OSHA approved safety glasses, solid toe shoes, applicable tool list, and appropriate clothing.

Automotive Braking System

This course covers principles of operation and types, diagnosis, service, and repair of brake systems. Topics include drum and disc brakes involving hydraulic, vacuum boost, hydra-boost, electrically powered boost, and anti-lock and parking brake systems. Upon completion, students should be able to diagnose, service, and repair various automotive braking systems. Requires: OSHA approved safety glasses, solid toe shoes, applicable tool list, and appropriate clothing.

Diesel Fuel & Power Systems (co-curriculum course)

This course introduces the principles of fuel injection and other power systems used in the heavy equipment industry including newer and cleaner technology. Emphasis is placed on test equipment, component functions, safety, and theories of older conventional and newer and cleaner Tier III and Tier IV fuel systems. Upon completion, students should be able to diagnose and service fuel systems and explain proper safety procedures on alternative fuel systems used in the heavy equipment industry.

Hydraulics – Med/Heavy Duty (co-curriculum course)

This course introduces hydraulic theory and applications as applied to mobile equipment. Topics include component studies such as pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, filters, reservoirs, lines, and fittings. Upon completion, students should be able to identify, diagnose, test, and repair hydraulic systems using schematics and technical manuals.

Preventative Maintenance (co-curriculum course)

This course introduces preventive maintenance practices used on medium and heavy duty vehicles and rolling assemblies. Topics include preventive maintenance schedules, services, DOT rules and regulations, and road ability. Upon completion, students should be able to set up and follow a preventive maintenance schedule as directed by manufacturers.

Automotive Tire Technician

Learn to repair and install tires on cars, trucks and other vehicles. Subject matter includes installing, balancing, and repairing tires for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Other topics range from the relationship between torque and clamping force to the TPMS relearn procedures on domestic and import vehicles as well as the most likely reasons for common irregular tread wear patterns.

Automotive Racing & High Performance Engines

This course will teach you how to plan, design and build high performance engines from fuel system to oil pan. Build big power with any automotive or marine in-board engine. Requires: OSHA approved safety glasses, solid toe shoes, applicable tool list, and appropriate clothing.

Automotive Air Conditioning

Covers the theory of refrigeration and heating, electrical/electronic/pneumatic controls, and diagnosis/repair of climate control systems. Topics include diagnosis and repair of climate control components and systems, recovery/recycling of refrigerants, and safety and environmental regulations. Upon completion, students should be able to describe the operation, diagnose, and safely service climate control systems using appropriate tools, equipment, and service information. Requires: OSHA approved safety glasses, solid toe shoes, applicable tool list, and appropriate clothing.

Automotive Performance Diagnostic and Electrical

This course covers basic electrical theory, test equipment, diagnosis, repair, and replacement of batteries, starters, and alternators. Topics include Ohm’s Law, wiring diagrams, circuit testing, and basic troubleshooting. This is an introduction to the basic interrelationship of the engine, ignition, fuel, and exhaust systems that is called, engine performance. This course will cover the basics of the ignition system, basic engine operation, basic fuel and its delivery. The byproduct of their united functions which is exhaust and emissions will be discussed. Basic diagnostics and maintenance of these systems will be taught. High Performance and racing applications will be taught as well.

Automotive Steering and Suspension

This course covers principles of operation, types, and diagnosis/repair of suspension and steering systems to include steering geometry. Topics include manual and power steering systems and standard and electronically controlled suspension and steering systems. Upon completion, students should be able to service and repair steering and suspension components, check and adjust alignment angles, repair tires, and balance wheels. Requires: OSHA approved safety glasses, solid toe shoes, applicable tool list, and appropriate clothing.
