This course is designed for anyone in the Building Trades. If you are new to construction or an experienced trades person, learning to accurately read and execute a blueprint is essential for any management position. Students will learn to identify symbols, abbreviations, specifications and be able to estimate materials.

This short term training will instruct students in the basic carpentry skills essential to entry-level employment. Topics include orientation to the trade; building materials, fasteners and adhesives; hand and power tools; introduction to construction drawings, specifications and layout. Students will also learn mastery of basic quantitative and safety skills. Specific topics include foundations and footings, roof framing, wall systems, flooring systems and interior finishing. Instruction in the use of a speed square, skill saw, nail gun, power drill, orbital and disc sanders, speed square and level will also be taught.
