ACE Health Coach

Develop skills for coaching behavior change, physical activity and nutrition so you can empower people to achieve long-term sustainable change leading to weight loss, healthy eating, regular physical activity and overall well-being. Registered nurses, physicians, registered dietitians and medical assistants can use this training to deliver obesity interventions to patients. Corporate wellness program directors can facilitate healthy change among employees, and ultimately, save their companies money. Personal trainers and group fitness instructors can lead people more effectively, and increase their demand in the industry. Students who meet the qualifications may wish to sit for the ACE Health Coach national exam which is offered at a discounted fee to those enrolled in our training program. Dialysis Technician

The course is designed to prepare individuals with the theoretical, technical, and clinical skills needed to maintain equipment and provide patient care to those being treated for chronic renal diseases. Class consists of 72 lecture and laboratory hours as well as 60 clinical hours. Successful completion prepares individuals for employment as a dialysis technician in hospitals, renal dialysis facilities, and clinics. After one year of work experience, individuals may be eligible to sit for national certification as a Clinical Hemodialysis Technician. Note: Clinicals are scheduled for 8 am-4pm, 3/30-5/15. Prerequisite: Students proof of vaccinations plus flu shot when in season. May be required to pass a drug screen and background check prior to clinical rotation if required by clinical site. Failure to pass this screening prevents attendance for clinicals and completion of class. Prepayment required.

ECG/Cardiac Monitor Technician

The Cardiac Monitor Technician (sometimes called a Telemetry or Cardiac Monitor Technician) is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. The technician delivers telemetry to intermediate units and performs monitor hook-up/discharge, patient preparation, and teaching related to the monitor. In addition to cardiac monitoring skills, the course will cover Capnography (CO2 monitoring) and 12 lead EKG skills. Textbook: Basic Arrythmias 7th edition.

Essentials of Strength and Conditioning

This course examines the advanced methods and techniques associated with the design of strength and conditioning programs to enhance human performance in sport and fitness. The course is designed to enhance the students’ current level of knowledge in preparation for the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification. Great class for high school level coaches, athletic trainers and clinicians looking to increase marketability, new college graduates or anyone looking to enter the sports medicine field. (Note: This class meets two Saturdays, June 11 & July 25, daytime hours.)

Medical Assistant Review

Guidelines set by the 2009 EHR incentive program restrict who can enter medication, imaging and laboratory orders in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to a licensed health professional or credentialed medical assistant. This course was developed to help those that have already completed a formal Medical Assistant program but did not test for national certification OR those who have experience working as a medical assistant seeking to gain certification based on their work experience. Medical Front Office Skills

This course provides training in the skills required to work in a medical front office. Course topics include electronic medical records, effective telephone etiquette, appointment scheduling, internal and external customer service, medical laws and ethics, utilizing effective oral and written communications, handling front office operations, and assisting physicians and medical staff. Gain real life experience and the skills needed to work in a front office of a medical practice via a simulated environment. Each task will simulate a commonly performed administrative duty. Medical Insurance and Billing

Medical Insurance Billers translate a healthcare service into a billing claim. They take the medical codes, enter them into the billing software, and then submit the claim to the payer (insurance company) to be paid. Medical billing specialists have a daily interaction with both patients and insurance companies to ensure claims are paid on time. When paired with Professional Medical Coding, students may wish to pursue national certification through the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) to become a Certified Professional Biller (CPB). Prerequisite: Medical Terminology. Textbook: Understanding Health Insurance: A Guide to Billing and Reimbursement 14th Edition.

Medical Lab Assistant

This course is designed to teach core clinical laboratory skills. The curriculum will focus on basic laboratory methods in quality control, quality assurance, information recording and transfer, normal and abnormal laboratory values, and problem recognition. The volume of laboratory tests continues to increase with both population growth and the development of new types of tests. Optional Certified Medical Lab Assistant National Certification exam will be administered at the end of the course for an additional fee. Successful completion of this course guarantees acceptance in the Phlebotomy program as long as student meets the Phlebotomy enrollment requirements. When paired with the Phlebotomy and Lab Services course, students gain the hours and clinical time needed to sit for the AMT medical lab assistant exam. Medication Aide

Prepares students to safely administer medications with emphasis on the 6 Rights of Medication Administration and documentation on the MAR (Medication Administration Record) to include routine and PRN (as needed) medications by various routes, IV and injectable medications are not part of this course. Successful participants will receive a certificate of completion and will be able to apply for the North Carolina exam administered by Pearson Vue to be listed on the N.C. Medication Aide Registry. Class requires a high school diploma or HSE and must be currently registered on the North Carolina NA I Registry. Textbook: “NC BON Medication Administration Student Manual“. Personal Trainer (ACSM)

Course helps you prepare to become a Certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Learn how to implement training plans using well developed programming methods to enhance muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition and more. The instructor is a NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist, AFPA Nutrition & Wellness Consultant, NAMPFT Personal Trainer, Madd Dog Athletics certified, and has a Masters in the Science of Sports Medicine. This is a HYBRID class, so you must have internet access. Class meets Monday through Friday, 6 – 9 pm the first week, then meets once a week on Wednesdays, 6 – 9 pm and the last Saturday of each month from 8 am-5 pm. Students should have regular access to the internet to take the class and should expect to spend 6 hours per week outside of the regular classroom completing online instruction.
