Electrical I – Intro

This introductory program prepares individuals with the knowledge and skills needed for employment in the residential electrical trade.  The curriculum offers a basic framework of electrical theory and provides the hands-on skills needed to install, service and maintain electrical equipment in residential settings.

Electrical Contractor Continuing Education (8 hr.)

Course meets the N.C. State Board of Electrical Examiners eight hour continuing education requirement for electrical contractors.  You can register and pay online for this course through Web Advisor.

Facilities Maintenance

Prepares students for employment in the facilities maintenance field. Topics include: safety, hand and power tools, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning maintenance, as well as ceramic tile installation/maintenance.

Fruit & Vegetable Production (HOR 142 co-curriculum)

This course introduces the principles and techniques of growing fruits and field-grown vegetables. Topics include site selection, proper varietal selection, nutritional values, cultural techniques, harvesting and marketing, and insect and disease control. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the principles related to the production of selected fruits and vegetables.

Greenhouse Production (HOR 235 co-curriculum)

This course covers the production of greenhouse crops. Emphasis is placed on product selection and production based on market needs and facility availability, including record keeping. Upon completion, students should be able to select and make production schedules to successfully produce greenhouse crops.

Horticulture Management & Marketing (HOR 273  co-curriculum)

This course covers the steps involved in starting or managing a horticultural business. Topics include financing, regulations, market analysis, employer/employee relations, formulation of business plans, and operational procedures in a horticultural business. Upon completion, students should be able to assume ownership or management of a horticultural business.

Horticulture Pest Management (HOR 164  co-curriculum)

This course covers the identification and management of plant pests including insects, diseases, and weeds. Topics include pest identification and beneficial organisms, pesticide application safety and use of least toxic methods of management. Upon completion, students should be able to manage common landscape pests using least toxic methods of control and be prepared to sit for North Carolina Commercial Pesticide Ground Applicators license.

Landscape Management II (HOR 217  co-curriculum)

This course provides additional opportunities to design plans, write contracts, and present proposals. Emphasis is placed on the development, pricing, and presentation of proposals and additional exploration of cultural applications. Upon completion, students should be able to analyze a property, develop a management plan, and price and present that plan.

Landscape Technician

This course serves as an introduction to entry-level landscaping with an emphasis on using materials native to Carteret County and eastern North Carolina. Students will learn how to create and maintain landscapes and hardscapes, learn about turfgrass, native grasses, shrubs and trees. Weed, pest and disease identification will be covered along with pest-control strategies. Safe operation of hand tools, power tools and other equipment will be taught along with training in sales, pricing and other aspects of the business to include customer communication and employment skills.

Nursery Production (HOR 225 co-curriculum)

This course covers all aspects of nursery crop production. Emphasis is placed on field production and covers soils, nutrition, irrigation, pest control, and harvesting. Upon completion, students should be able to produce a marketable nursery crop.

Plant Materials II (HOR 161 co-curriculum)

This course provides a supplementary opportunity to cover identification, culture, characteristics, and use of plants in a sustainable landscape, giving students a broader knowledge of available landscape plants for utilization in landscapes and plant production. Emphasis is placed on nomenclature, identification, growth requirements, cultural requirements, soil preferences, landscape applications and expansion of the plant palette. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of the proper selection and utilization of plant materials, including natives and invasive plants.

Plant Propagation (HOR 168 co-curriculum)

This course is a study of sexual and asexual reproduction of plants. Emphasis is placed on seed propagation, grafting, stem and root propagation, micro-propagation, and other propagation techniques. Upon completion, students should be able to successfully propagate ornamental plants.

New – Modern Woodworking with Computer Aided Drafting & Computer Navigated Cutting CAD/CNC

This course will instruct students on the operation of a modern Computer Navigated Cutting (CNC) machine while utilizing Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) software. Students will have the opportunity to design and build custom parts and signs of their choice. The course will walk the students thru CNC equipment setup, alignment, maintenance, basic CAD instruction and CNC operating procedures.

New – Modern Woodworking / Wood Sign Workshop

Students will design and create completely custom wooden decor for home, office, or beach house. This course will guide you through the process of graphic design and ultimately converting your design into a sign that will be automatically cut on our computer assisted 3-axis CNC machine. Students will have the opportunity to create and cut up to three custom signs! Some examples of potential projects include custom signs for the holidays, family names, college logos, sports teams, and inspirational quotes. You are only limited by your imagination!

Powerline Technician I

Powerline Technician I is the first part of a two part series. This 16-week program prepares individuals with the necessary skills for employment in various electrical utility industries. Course topics will focus on the fundamentals of line construction to include overhead and underground line work, vehicle set-up and operation, transformer wiring and configuration, meter applications, and safe work practices. Student safety and teamwork will be emphasized throughout the course, along with rules and regulations applicable to the industry. Pre-requisites: 18 years of age, weight restrictions are limited to 275 lbs., DOT physical and drug test, DMV driving history, Valid NC Driver License (Must be provided at time at registration). Module I – 280 hours. $180 (Ins. $1.00). Module 2 – 276 hours. $180 (Ins. $1.00). Must complete a separate registration for each module.
