Pottery Hand Building

This class is tailored towards beginner students learning hand building pottery techniques. We meet once a week and the first four days we will work with wet clay, the fifth day we will be trimming (applying finishing touches) to the pieces, the sixth and seventh day we will be glazing all the pieces and the last day is for picking up completed work.

This is a free flowing class that allows the students to create works and learn from the creation process. We will not spend a lot of time watching demonstrations but students are encouraged to do their own research and study at home. Building art out of clay is a process that can be enhanced with preplanning but that is also not necessary. Some of the best pots are not what they were originally intended to be.

Returning students or advanced wheel throwers may use the wheels if they do not need formal instruction on the wheel. For those students, this class is considered open studio (wheel throwing or hand building) which follows along with the class schedule days and times of building, firing and glazing.

***All supplies, tools and one 25 pound of clay is included but please dress ready to get clay/mud dirty and bring a towel or apron if you plan on using the wheel.
