NC Longleaf Commitment Grant

The Longleaf Commitment is a grant program for RECENT NC high school graduates who will attend one of our state’s “Great 58” community colleges during the 2023-2024 academic year.

Full-time eligible students are guaranteed to receive $700 to $2,800 per academic year, for a total of two years. Less than full-time students may receive a partial award.

The Longleaf Commitment Grant ends at the conclusion of the 2025 spring semester.

DEADLINE

Complete your 2024-2025 FAFSA as soon as possible in order to be awarded the grant in time to start classes this Fall!

Eligibility Requirements

  • Graduate from a NC high school in Dec. 2022, Jan. 2023 or May 2023
  • Be a NC resident for tuition purposes
  • Be a first-time college student*
  • Enroll in a curriculum program during the 2023-2024 academic year
  • Enroll in at least 6 credit hours per semester
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2023-2024 at www.studentaid.gov
  • Have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from $0 – $15,000**
  • Renew the FAFSA for the 2024-2025*** academic years and meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements of the college

 

* Former Career & College Promise (CCP) and Early/Middle College High School students are eligible upon graduation from a NC high school

**  “EFC” is based upon a student’s FAFSA  determination

*** The 2024-2025 FAFSA is scheduled to be available after Dec. 31, 2023

How to get Started

The process to determine eligibility is easy and does not require a separate application!

  1. Apply for admission to Carteret CC and complete residency determination through the North Carolina Residency Determination Service (RDS).
  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Carteret CC’s school code is 008081. Consideration for funding is automatic once the FAFSA is completed.
