At Carteret CC we offer two special transfer programs with East Carolina University – Pirate Promise and Partnership Teach. Take a look below and find out which one best fits your educational and career goals.
Prepare for your future: join the Pirate Nation with Pirate Promise. This transfer program is for students who are in their first year of coursework at Carteret CC to attend special events, receive advising assistance, and support before they apply to ECU.
Pirate Promise applicants must be or plan to be enrolled at Carteret CC as a full–time student (minimum 12 hours a semester). To retain eligibility, students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 at Carteret CC. The Pirate Promise program does not guarantee admission to a specific major or program – additional application materials may be required for more competitive majors.
By participating you will have access to extensive resources geared to guiding you through the transfer process at ECU.
STEP 1 | Enroll at Carteret CC
Students interested in the Pirates Promise program must enroll at Carteret CC as a full-time student (minimum 12 credit hours per semester).
STEP 2 | Complete online Pirate Promise Application
The Pirate Promise application is open in early fall and early spring for interested students.
STEP 3 | Connect with Pirate Promise Advisor
After applying for the program, students should connect with the Carteret CC Pirate Promise Advisor at PiratePromise@carteret.edu to begin the transfer process.
Partnership Teach is the affordable, online degree completion model offered by ECU’s College of Education to increase the number of high-quality teachers in local communities. Students begin by taking specific courses at any Carteret CC and then transfer to ECU to complete one of four teaching degrees completely online. Students can graduate with a four-year degree in elementary education, middle grades education, or special education.
STEP 1 | Connect with Partnership Teach Advisor
Students interested in the program should connect with the Carteret CC Partnership Teach Advisor at PartnershipTeach@carteret.edu to begin the enrollment process at Carteret Community College.
STEP 2 | Complete Partnership Teach Checklist
Partnership Teach offers students a pathway to one of four teaching degrees from ECU in elementary education, middle grades education, or special education. Each cohort has specific community college courses listed in a Partnership Teach Checklist that must be completed in order to graduate with a four-year degree from ECU. Find the checklist that you and your advisor have discussed and complete the community college courses.
STEP 3 | Pass Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Exams
Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) tests are required for application to ECU’s Partnership Teach model and later the Upper Division phase of the Teacher education programs at ECU. The 3 tests measure basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics. Students may take Praxis tests at computer testing centers around the state. Students should contact Educational Testing Service (ETS) at www.ets.org/praxis to schedule and pay for required tests.
STEP 4 | Apply to Partnership Teach
Students will apply to the Partnership Teach program in their second year at Carteret CC. Deadlines vary based on degree and enrollment status.
