Carteret CC's Exceptional Adult Education program (formerly known as Adult Basic Education), is designed for individuals who need more assistance to develop fundamental skills in reading, writing, math and technology. Morning and afternoon classes are offered on campus.

  • Build foundational skills in reading, writing, math and technology for further educational and employment opportunities. (Available to individuals with or without a high school diploma.)
  • Classes are designed for the needs of the adult learner.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as Special Olympics and off-campus field trips

Step 1: Register for Orientation

Select an available session to attend the mandatory ABE Orientation with the link provided below.

Step 2: Provide Documentation

Documents that must be brought to the mandatory orientation:

  • Social Security or Tax ID card (signed) (copies not accepted). If you do not have access to one of these items, you may still be eligible to participate. Call us at (252) 222-6083 for information.
  • Government or state issued photo ID (no school or work ID’s accepted)
  • Sealed Official High School Transcript from last high school attended (If there is not a transcript available, student will start classes with 0 credits.)

Step 3: Minors (ages 16 & 17)

Minor aged students and your parents/legal guardians age 18 years or older, please bring the completed and signed “Application to Attend Carteret CC Basic Skills Program” packet and required documentation with you at the time of your orientation. If you have any questions, call our general information line.

Minor students aged 16 or 17 attending orientation must:
