Steps to Apply
Veterans & Dependents
Take advantage of your VA benefits and educational assistance for veterans and their families. Our Veterans Services team helps you navigate GI Bill enrollment, credit transfers, and on-campus support networks.
Step 1: Enroll at Carteret CC
Whether you’re a first-time college student or transfer student, you will complete Carteret CC’s enrollment steps to begin earning college credit.
Step 2: Submit Military Transcripts
Your military training and experience may count toward your education at Carteret Community College. Veterans are required to submit an official military transcript so the College can evaluate your previous training and determine whether you may be eligible to receive college credit.
Submit Your Official Military Transcript
Request an official copy of your military transcript and have it sent directly to Carteret Community College. Transcripts submitted by the student are not considered official.
Air Force
Air Force veterans and service members can request an official transcript through the Community College of the Air Force.
Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps & Navy
Veterans and service members from the Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy can request their official military transcript through the Joint Services Transcript (JST) system.
Where to Send Your Transcript
Official military transcripts should be sent directly to Carteret Community College for evaluation.

What Happens Next?
Once Carteret receives your official military transcript, it will be evaluated to determine whether your military education and training may apply toward your degree, diploma, or certificate.

To begin using your educational benefits, Veteran students will need to submit an Institutional Application for Veterans Benefits.
Step 4: Apply for VA Benefits
Additionally, you must apply with the Veterans Administration. You can apply online for VA benefits and/or work with Carteret’s Veterans Certifying Official to determine the best benefit program for you.
Step 5: Select a Program of Study
VA requires you to select a program of study and make satisfactory progress toward completing your degree. Identify the your program of study and provide a copy to the Veterans Certifying Official at [email protected].
Step 6: Maintain your Eligibility
You are responsible for following enrollment regulations to maintain your VA benefits. The Veterans Certifying Official can assist you along the way.
Optional Step 1: Apply for Federal Aid
You can receive financial aid in addition to your VA benefits. You also may apply for a variety of scholarship opportunities, including some reserved for military and veterans.
Optional Step 2: Disability Services
If needed, apply for disability services to receive assistance or accommodations.
