Registration Information

Student Holds

A student hold may prevent you from registering for classes. Check the notifications section in Carteret Compass for any student holds you may have. Allow up to 24 hours for a student hold to be removed from your record after you have completed the requirement.

Schedule Changes

Students can add and drop classes in which they are enrolled during the schedule change period at the start of each semester or session.

See important dates and deadlines for the schedule change dates for your semester or session.

If you are enrolled in classes before the first day of the semester or session in which you wish to enroll, you may add and drop classes for that session or for a later session.

If you are not already enrolled in classes in the session in which you wish to enroll, you cannot register for a class after the session has started. You may register during the schedule change period for available courses in a later session.

All posted tuition deadlines apply.

Drop/withdrawal Penalties

Avoid penalties by reviewing the drop/withdrawal rules below before you drop a class. Areas that are affected include financial aid, veterans’ benefits, and academic standing.

Tuition refunds: You are eligible for a partial refund during schedule change periods. To receive a 100% refund, you must drop a class before the semester/session begins.

Course Cancellation

Carteret CC may cancel classes because of low enrollment. You will be notified by your student email if your class has been canceled – be sure to check your email regularly.

You also can check the course schedule at the end of open registration to see a list of canceled classes. Either way, it’s a good idea to reconfirm your registration before the first class meets.

IMPORTANT: You will have an opportunity to register for a different class before the semester or session starts or receive a refund. Check your student email for details if your class is canceled.

Course Drops/Withdrawals

Know the Consequences Before You Drop or Withdraw

If you want to drop or withdraw from a class after it has started, you must complete certain steps. Unless you take these steps, you will remain enrolled in the class even if you do not attend.

IMPORTANT: If you stop submitting work or attending the course and do not officially drop or withdraw, you will receive a “UW” grade. A “UW” grade is submitted when an instructor withdrawals a student with the equivalent of an F grade.

Course Drop/Withdrawal Instructions

Communication with your instructor is important prior to dropping a course. The instructor might be able to offer tutoring sessions, resources, or help in a struggling class.

When meeting with your advisor about dropping a course, discuss how this will impact your graduation deadline.

When You Drop or Withdraw from Class

If you drop/withdraw Considerations
During registration Class is deleted from your enrollment. You are eligible for a full tuition refund.
BEFORE the census date Class is deleted from your enrollment. The class does not earn any grade, and does not appear on your transcript. You may be eligible for a partial tuition refund.
