Shackleford Beach Cleanup
Join Carteret CC’s Krakens for Conservation
for National Public Lands Day: Shackleford Banks Beach Cleanup!
Cape Lookout is looking for volunteers to do a beach clean up on the West end of Shackleford Banks for National Public Lands Day. We will be picking up marine debris on September 28th, 2024. The group will meet at 9:00am at the 701 Front Street, NC 28516 and ride the 10:00am ferry to Westend of Shackleford Banks. The cleanup will last until 2:00.When we finish, you can enjoy the day on the beach and choose your return ferry. Those who are participating in the cleanup do not need to register with Island Express Ferry Service. The National Park Service will make the reservations.
We will be working outside all day, so we recommend wearing clothes to protect against the sun, such as long sleeves, hats, and sunglasses. Also, wear long pants to protect from ticks in the grassy areas. Bring water bottles, snacks, and bug spray. During this clean up, we plan on walking multiple miles to cover as much ocean side beach as possible. All participants MUST register in advance to join us!
For more information, or to register, please call Harkers Island Visitor Center at (252) 838-8950.
