Blevins Samaritan Scholarship was established by Thomas Blevins, along with support from his cousin, Rebecca Davidson. Thomas Blevins, a native of Winston-Salem, is a retired teacher from the Carteret County Public School System.  After 34 years of teaching, he knows the importance of obtaining a degree or trade skill. “Education is what helps students become productive members of our community,” says Mr. Blevins. “And shapes them to be good Samaritans.” It is Mr. Blevins’ mission to help establish the basis for students to become lifelong learners and to inspire the love of learning.

Mr. Blevins recognizes that the majority of students in Carteret County need some form of financial aid to further their education and/or training. The Thomas M. Blevins Samaritan Scholarship is an annual scholarship available to students who have graduated from a Carteret County high school and attend Carteret Community College. Once a year an eligible student will receive the $500 scholarship, which is not program specific and is open to traditional and non-traditional students.

“My uncle, Robert L. Blevins, was also a distinguished educator,” says Ms. Davidson. “My contribution is in his honor and I am proud that I could support Thomas to help make this happen.” By removing some of the financial burden, scholarships help students focus on completion. To learn more about establishing scholarships contact the Carteret Community College Foundation at (252) 222-6262.  You can make a big difference for our local students!
