Whether you’re just starting your journey or completing your post-licensing requirements, our classes are designed to fit your schedule and set you up for success.
North Carolina requires individuals who wish to practice real estate as agents for others to obtain a broker license through the North Carolina Real Estate Commission (NCREC). The licensing process begins with successful completion of the state-approved Provisional Broker Pre-licensing Course, followed by submission of a license application, a review of eligibility, and passing the North Carolina real estate licensing examination. Applicants must also meet the Commission’s character requirements before a license can be issued.
Upon successful completion of the licensing exam, new licensees are typically issued a Provisional Broker license. To remove the provisional status, brokers must complete the Commission’s required 90 hours of post-licensing education within 18 months of the date of initial licensure. These courses build on the knowledge gained in the pre-licensing program and provide practical instruction in areas such as brokerage relationships, contracts, transactions, and real estate law. Post-licensing education consists of the following three 30-hour courses:
- Post 301 – Broker Relationships and Responsibilities
- Post 302 – Contracts and Closing
- Post 303 – NC Law, Rules, and Legal Concepts
Once licensed, North Carolina real estate brokers must also complete annual continuing education requirements, including the Commission-mandated update course and an approved elective course, to maintain an active license. Carteret Community College offers the required Pre-licensing, Post-licensing, and Annual Update courses. These programs help both new and experienced brokers stay current with industry practices, legal requirements, and regulatory changes affecting the real estate profession in North Carolina.

Pre-Licensing Course
- RE Provisional – Prepare to become a licensed North Carolina real estate broker. This foundational course meets the state’s educational requirements for a provisional broker license and equips you with the knowledge and confidence to pass the N.C. real estate licensing exam.
Post-Licensing Courses
Complete your post-licensing education and move from provisional to full broker status. Each course is designed to deepen your understanding of North Carolina real estate laws, contracts, and professional practices:
- RE Broker Relationships – Explore agency law, fiduciary duties, buyer and seller representation, disclosure requirements, and broker-to-broker cooperation. Completion counts toward the state requirement for provisional brokers upgrading to full broker status.
- RE Contracts & Closing – One of three mandatory post-licensing courses required for newly licensed N.C. provisional brokers, this class focuses on contracts, procedures, and documentation for successful real estate transactions and closings.
- RE N.C. Law, Rules & Regulations – Review key statutes, Commission rules, brokerage compensation issues, and disciplinary procedures. This course satisfies one of the three required classes to remove provisional status and maintain an active license.
