Renewable Energy Symposium

Renewable Energy Symposium

How do you plan to celebrate Earth Week? What better way than to learn more about renewable energy! On Thursday, April 20th from 1-6 p.m., Carteret Community College is co-sponsoring a Renewable Energy Symposium with the NC Sierra Club and NC Interfaith Power and Light.

This is a special opportunity to learn more about renewable energy like solar and wind and hear directly from utility companies and solar installers. From 1-1:30 p.m., participants are invited to a “meet and greet” where they may peruse information tables and speak directly to symposium presenters.

Beginning at 1:30, presenters will speak on the following topics:

Presented by: Perry Harker, Vice President of Corporate and Community Education | Carteret Community College
  • Reducing our Carbon Footprint
Presented by: Keynote Speaker Cassie Gavin, Policy Director | NC Sustainable Energy Association
  • Onshore & Offshore Wind in NC and the Benefits
Presented by: Karly Lohan, NC Program and Outreach Manager | The Southeastern Wind Coalition
  • Climate Change and a Hopeful Response
Presented by: Susannah Tuttle, Executive Director | NC Interfaith Power and Light

Concluding the presentations is an opportunity for questions and answers followed by a short break with lite refreshments. Then at 3:15 p.m. a panel representing utility and solar installer companies will discuss potential state and federal rebates in connection to renewable energies. Panel participants include representative from the following companies:

  • Carteret Craven Co-op
  • Duke Energy
  • Southern Energy Management (Triangle)
  • Cape Fear Solar (Wilmington)
