Board of Trustee Meeting
September 11, 2024
Meeting Highlights
On this 23rd Anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks on our country, let us all be reminded of the courage of so many who rushed to action to save lives, the memories of those lost, and the unity and patriotism that followed. The Carteret News-Times has a very fitting message about this in today’s editorial. Thank you to the SGA for the flags they have placed around the College’s 9-11 Memorial and their message of resilience and hope.
On Wednesday, September 11, 2024 the Carteret CC Board of Trustees met for their monthly meeting. Copies of board agenda packets and meeting minutes are available here. Here are a few highlights from the meeting:
- County Clerk of Superior Court Ken Raper administered the oath of office to our newest trustee, Mr. Mort Congleton, who was appointed by the Carteret County Board of Commissioners. Mr. Congleton has been executive director of the Wake Technical Community College Foundation and a Senior Vice President for Advancement at Wake Tech. We look forward to the experience and wisdom he will bring to Carteret CC.
- The Board adopted the 2024-2025 state baseline budget, which includes 3% raises for employees, retroactive to July 1, 2024. These increases will appear in employees’ September paychecks.
- The Board approved for the eventual demolition of the Security and Pottery Buildings to prepare that area of campus for the future Workforce Center for Construction and Transportation Trades. The State Board of Community Colleges must now approve that demotion.
- The Board agreed that the College should enter into a contract with IEM, the County’s disaster relief management provider, for assistance if needed in the future.
- The Board approved a flat-rate bonus to be disbursed in the October paycheck.
