Carteret to Host Inaugural NCAEC/CCAEC Electrical Apprenticeship Signing Day
Community invited to celebrate workforce partnerships and the future of the electrical trade.
Carteret Community College’s Trades and Industry Division, in partnership with the North Carolina Association of Electrical Contractors (NCAEC) and the Carteret County Association of Electrical Contractors (CCAEC), will host the inaugural NCAEC/CCAEC Electrical Apprenticeship Signing Day on Thursday, August 13, at 6 p.m. in Joslyn Hall, located in the McGee Building on Carteret Community College’s campus.
This milestone event celebrates a collaborative approach to workforce development by recognizing both the apprentices beginning their educational journey and the local electrical contractors who have committed to investing in the future of the electrical industry. Community members, industry leaders, families, students, and prospective apprentices are invited to attend this special celebration.
Modeled after collegiate signing ceremonies, the event recognizes apprentices as they officially begin the next step toward becoming licensed electricians through the NCAEC Apprenticeship Program. For this inaugural class, participating electrical contractors have selected apprentices from their existing workforce, providing valued employees with the opportunity to advance their careers through a structured apprenticeship that combines paid, on-the-job training with classroom instruction.
Participating contractor sponsors include Mike Lawrence Electric, Total Comfort Heating & Air, and Mr. Electric, whose investment in employee development demonstrates the industry’s commitment to strengthening the skilled trades throughout Carteret County and eastern North Carolina.
The Electrical Apprenticeship Program is built on the partnership between Carteret Community College, NCAEC, and CCAEC, combining real-world work experience with technical education. Apprentices continue working alongside experienced electricians while attending classes taught by Carteret Community College instructors, allowing them to immediately apply classroom concepts in the field.
The signing ceremony represents a shared commitment to workforce development, celebrating the leadership of local electrical contractors who are investing their time, resources, and expertise into developing the next generation of licensed electricians. Their mentorship helps apprentices build not only technical skills, but also the professionalism, craftsmanship, and work ethic that define success in the electrical trade.
At the heart of this partnership is a simple but powerful idea: electricians training future electricians. By connecting education with industry, the apprenticeship program creates meaningful career pathways while helping meet the growing demand for highly skilled electrical professionals across North Carolina.
While the inaugural class is composed of apprentices selected by participating contractors from within their existing workforce, future apprenticeship opportunities will continue to expand. Prospective apprentices may be referred through Carteret Community College, the North Carolina Association of Electrical Contractors, the Carteret County Association of Electrical Contractors, or directly by participating electrical contractors. Candidates are screened through the partnership before being matched with participating employers.
