MLK Day of Service at Crystal Bluffs

Coming together to celebrate service, compassion, & unity
As we reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are reminded of his unwavering commitment to service, community, and the power of human connection. This year, Carteret CC’s Student Government Association (SGA) invites students, faculty, and staff to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s memory by participating in a special MLK Day of Service event at Crystal Bluffs Nursing Home.
On this day of giving back, volunteers will have the opportunity to engage with local seniors in meaningful ways—sharing conversations, playing card and board games, and even bringing a splash of creativity through painting activities. These simple yet heartfelt interactions can brighten someone’s day, build intergenerational bonds, and reinforce the spirit of service that Dr. King championed throughout his life.
MLK Day is more than a day off—it’s a day on, a call to action, and a reminder of our collective responsibility to support one another. We strive to embody these values not just on this day, but throughout the year. Visiting Crystal Bluffs gives us a chance to foster connections, uplift spirits, and make a tangible impact in our community.
How to Get Involved
We welcome all students, staff, and faculty of the Carteret CC family to join us in making a difference. Your presence will make an impact. No special skills are required—just a willingness to engage and share kindness.
MLK Day is still a few weeks away, but we hope students take on this spirit now by signing up to volunteer and finding other ways to help their community. Whether it’s lending a hand to a neighbor, supporting a local cause, or simply spreading kindness, every act of service counts.
To sign up to volunteer, please use the button below. For more information on what to expect, please reach out to SGA. Let’s come together to celebrate service, compassion, and unity—values that Dr. King so powerfully championed.
Join us in honoring his legacy by making a difference, one conversation and one act of kindness at a time.
