Program Overview
Become a Commissioned Notary — on Your Terms
At Carteret Community College, we offer a full suite of notary training courses to meet your needs — whether you prefer in-person instruction or an online format, whether you want to perform traditional notarizations or enter the growing field of electronic notarization and signing services. Our notary courses are designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and credentials to serve your community with confidence.
Course Offerings
Our Course Offerings
Notary Public (In-Person / Face-to-Face)
A comprehensive 8-hour basic notary public training course covering North Carolina law, proper identification of signers, journal and recordkeeping, acceptable practices, prohibited acts, and application procedures.
Online Notary/Public Course
Offers the same content as the in-person version, delivered in a synchronous online format. Students must participate live, using a webcam, microphone, and reliable internet connection. Assignments may need to be completed before the first session.
Electronic Notary / eNotary (Seated & Online)
This 4-hour course builds upon your existing NC notary commission and trains you in electronic notarization (applying your notary signature and seal to electronic documents). Offered live online, this course prepares you to commission documents in a paperless environment. (Note: In-person identity verification of principals is still required.)
NC Notary Signing Agent (Online Only)
Tailored to notaries who wish to specialize in handling loan closings, refinancing, and real estate transactions. Delivered fully online, this course covers best practices in signing procedures, lender requirements, ethics, and minimizing liability.
Eligibility
To register for a Notary Public course, students must meet the eligibility requirements listed below:
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Hold a high school diploma or GED (or equivalent).
- Be able to satisfactorily complete the course work.
If you have been convicted of a felony, you must contact the North Carolina Secretary of State’s Office to determine eligibility.
