Dental Assisting

Dental assistants work alongside dentists to perform a variety of tasks, including preparing patients for treatment, sterilizing equipment, and assisting with procedures. This field requires specialized training and may offer certification or licensure options. Dental assistants work in dental offices, clinics, and hospitals.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for fall and spring cohorts.

Emergency Medical Science

Emergency medical science professionals provide life-saving care as EMTs and Paramedics in both field and hospital settings. Carteret CC offers pathways for both, combining classroom instruction, hands-on labs, and clinical experiences to prepare students for state and national certification exams.

Applications for EMS programs are accepted on a rolling basis. EMT is offer in the fall, spring, and summer.

The Paramedic program offers a January start date.

Medical Assisting

Medical assistants are versatile professionals trained to work in ambulatory healthcare settings, providing administrative, clinical, and laboratory support. They work in various healthcare settings, performing tasks like taking vital signs, preparing exam rooms, scheduling appointments, assisting with procedures, and educating patients.

Applications open on October 1st and close June 1st.

Nurse Aid

Nurse aides provide essential, hands-on care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health, and hospice settings. Carteret CC’s Nurse Aide program trains students in vital skills like communication, safety, infection control, personal care, nutrition, rehabilitation, and end-of-life support.

Graduates are eligible to take the state competency exam to become a Certified Nurse Aide I in North Carolina and move on to the Nurse Aide II course.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for fall, spring, and summer cohorts.

Nursing (ADN)

The Associate Degree Nursing program at Carteret CC equips students with the knowledge, skills, and strategies to provide safe and quality nursing care in various healthcare settings.

Graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam and have a wide range of employment opportunities in the global healthcare system.

Applications for the Fall cohort open October 1st and close March 1st.

Radiography

Studying radiography involves acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary to produce diagnostic medical images. Students learn about anatomy, radiographic techniques, patient positioning, and radiation safety. Through hands-on training and clinical experiences, they develop proficiency in operating radiographic equipment, performing procedures for diagnostic images, and effectively communicating with patients.

Applications open October 1st and close April 1st.

Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory therapy is a healthcare profession focused on helping patients with respiratory issues breathe easier. Respiratory therapists assess, treat, and monitor patients with conditions like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and sleep apnea. They administer respiratory treatments, manage ventilators, conduct pulmonary function tests, and educate patients on proper breathing techniques.

Applications open October 1st and close June 1st.

Social & Human Services

The Social & Human Services curriculum prepares students for entry-level positions in institutions and agencies that provide social, community and educational services. Graduates should qualify for positions in mental health, child care, family services, social services, rehabilitation, correction and educational agencies.

Surgical Technology

Surgical technologists are integral members of the operating room team, trained to support surgical procedures with sterile technique, instrument handling, patient positioning, and safety protocols.

Carteret CC’s Surgical Technician program combines online lectures, classroom and lab work, and hands-on clinical rotations (totaling 568 hours) to prepare you for entry-level certification.

Upon program completion, graduates are eligible to sit for the National Center for Competency Testing certification exam and begin working in hospitals or outpatient surgical settings.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for fall and spring cohorts.
