TalkCampus Arrives at Carteret CC

Carteret Community College is the latest institution to partner with innovative mental health solution, TalkCampus. TalkCampus is a platform that uses a combination of peer support, machine learning and innovative design to ensure that students have a community that makes talking about how they’re really feeling that little bit easier.

Carteret CC saw peer support as a welcome addition to their existing student services after recognizing the importance of out of hours support for their students. TalkCampus is easily accessible to students and is available 24/7, whilst offering real-time moderation and escalation as necessary. The TalkCampus global safety teamwork around the clock, across multiple time zones, and are available to intervene in real-time if a student is struggling. Carteret CC students now have access to a diverse global community of support, as TalkCampus supports institutions from 5 continents across 26 different languages.

“Carteret Community College students have experienced a number of hurdles over the past four years, with Hurricanes Florence and Dorian and then the COVID-19 pandemic,” said college president, Dr. Tracy Mancini. “The College recognized the need to provide additional mental health resources to assist students through these and other emergencies. In addition, as part of their capstone research project, a group of recent Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) graduates provided the College with suggestions for improving student mental health on campus. Joining the TalkCampus network will help the College respond to these and other student needs and allow us to continue serving students in ways that support their progress toward educational and career goals.”

A combination of peer support, machine-learning and innovative design, TalkCampus offers a community of support for academic anxieties, isolation and life’s ups and downs while also providing social connection with like-minded people, in a non-judgmental environment.

Peer support is a well-evidenced form of support that provides instant, ongoing connection wherever a student might be directly through their phones. TalkCampus helps students to start having what can be really challenging conversations around how they are really feeling. A recent survey found that since using TalkCampus 85% of students find it easier to ask for help when they need it and 82% find it easier to cope with life.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome the students at Carteret Community College to our TalkCampus community. The last few years have shown us all the importance of offering students 24/7 support. Having a safe community where students around the world can come together and share their ups and downs can be a very powerful tool for building resilience and is a wonderful addition to Carteret CC’s existing support services,” said Andrew Welch, SVP Partnerships.
