1. Fire Prevention: Fire Extinguisher Safety

Why take the training? Fire hazards are not limited to workplace. Fires can occur anywhere (home, work, church, vacation, shopping, etc.)  It’s always great to have a refresher on fire safety.

  • Length- 30 minutes
  • Summary- We see them hanging on the wall every day but most people know very little about fire extinguishers. Use this course to educate your team on the fire tetrahedron, the types of fires that can occur in the workplace, and how and when to use a fire extinguisher. This course also describes when to evacuate and provides some proper maintenance tips for fire extinguishers.

2. Fire Prevention: Fire & Explosion Hazards

Why take the training? A refresher on dangers that can occur in everyday life. Knowledge is power.

  • Length- 27 minutes
  • Summary- This course provides employees with basic knowledge of the dangers associated with fires and explosions, as well as appropriate planning and training for these events. The course will review fire basics, chemistry of combustion, explosions, common workplace hazards, and what to do in case of a fire or explosion.

Limited Employees

1. General Safety: Compressed Gas Safety

Why take the training? This course is a good refresher to ensure we are treating compressed gas cylinders safely to protect our students, our employees and our facilities.

  • Length- 15 minutes
  • Summary- The goal of this course is to provide a basic understanding of compressed gas and safety in the workplace. It will review how to make sure compressed gases are properly identified, the safe handling and use of compressed gases, how to store cylinders properly, and how to transport compressed gas cylinders safely.

About the Workplace Safety Training Plan

Why is Workplace Safety Training Important?

The goal of the Carteret Community College – Workplace Safety Training Plan is to provide knowledge and skills to Faculty and Staff to keep them safe while performing their job at Carteret Community College.

Maintaining a safe environment will prevent employee and/or student injury, damage to Carteret Community College property, OSHA fines, and/or increased insurance costs.

Who are the trainings offered to?

  • All Employees – These trainings are added automatically into every employees Safe Colleges Suggested Training queue. Please note these trainings are not mandatory, but are strongly encouraged.
  • Limited Employees – Specialized Trainings that may fall within a position’s scope of work will be added into the Safe Colleges Suggested Training queue for the individuals holding these positions. If you do not see these topics in your training queue, but are interested in taking the course, please reach out to Janet Peterson and she will add it for you.
  • Operations & Facilities Department Employees – Training topics that fall within the O&F scope of work will be pre-loaded into O&F employees Safe Colleges Training queues or reviewed during department meetings. If you do not see these topics in your training queue, but are interested in taking the course, please reach out to Janet Peterson and she will add it for you.
