New & Returning Students: Your Path to Success
If you’re new to Carteret CC or returning after some time away, we’ve broken down the steps to make your registration process as smooth as possible.
Step 1 – Prepare
Start by exploring our wide range of programs to find the one that fits your goals. We recommend taking a campus tour and setting up a 1-on-1 chat with a Carteret CC representative who can answer any questions you might have.
Step 2 – Apply
This step includes the Residency Determination, College Application, submitting official transcripts, and applying for financial aid. We know this can seem overwhelming, but our admissions team is here to help guide you through each part of the process.
Step 3 – Attend, Register, & Pay
Once you’ve been admitted, you’ll receive your student username and email account. From there, you’ll attend an orientation either in person or virtually, determine your course placement, and register for your classes.
We encourage all new and returning students to visit the MAPS Center (Mentoring, Advising, and Planning for Success) for any assistance you may need during registration.
When it comes to paying for classes, there are financial aid options, scholarships, work-study opportunities, and flexible payment plans available to support your journey.
If you have questions about the application process, reach out to our admissions office. Once you’ve been admitted, the MAPS Center is your go-to place for guidance on placement tests, course selection, and planning for your academic success.
The MAPS Center will have extended support available during early registration week to help students navigate the process. Remember, the MAPS Center does not require appointments, so you can stop by whenever it’s convenient for you!
Current Students
Here’s how you can make sure you’re on the right path when registering for spring classes.
Step 1 – Meet with your Advisor
We highly recommend scheduling a meeting with your advisor to discuss your academic goals and ensure you’re on track for graduation. If you’re not sure who your advisor is, you can check the Carteret Compass or contact admissions for assistance.
If you’re having trouble reaching your advisor or need additional guidance, the MAPS Center is available to help. While it’s always best to try and meet with your advisor first, MAPS can provide support if you’re unable to get in touch with them.
Step 2 – Check for Student Holds
Before registration, make sure there are no holds on your account that might prevent you from signing up for classes. These holds could be related to outstanding balances, missing documents, or other requirements.
Why Register Early?
Secure Your Classes: Registering early ensures you get a spot in the courses you need.
Plan Your Schedule: Make sure you’re not overloading yourself by considering your work, life, and academic commitments.
Stay on Track for Graduation: Early planning helps you stay on track to reach your academic goals and graduate on time.
Check Prerequisites: Ensure that you meet the requirements for each course to avoid any surprises during registration
Scholarship Opportunities
Don’t forget—Carteret CC students only need to submit one scholarship application to be automatically matched with dozens of potential scholarship opportunities. Visit the Scholarship webpage for more information on how to apply and take advantage of these funding options!
