2024 National SkillsUSA Competition
Students Win Big at National SkillsUSA Competition
At the end of June, seven Carteret CC students traveled to Atlanta for the National SkillsUSA competition. SkillsUSA is the number one workforce development organization for students. They empower students to become skilled professionals, career-ready leaders and responsible community members.
To earn an invitation to the national competition, students must win first place at the regional and state competitions. If the first-place person cannot attend, the person who placed second will attend in their place.
The Carteret CC students who attended the national competition had a remarkable showing at the event! They returned with 5 medals (1 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze) and two top 10 placements.
- Christian Pritt competed in Restaurant Service and placed in the top 10 in the nation.
- Jeffery Floyd competed in Nurse Assisting and placed in the top 10 in the nation. Jeffery also earned a Skill Point Certificate for exceeding the National Standards in Nurse Assisting.
- Jenmekia Gay competed in Job Interview and earned a bronze medal.
- Lexus Sosa competed in Mobile Electronics Installation and won a silver medal.
- Pierce Toledo competed in Information Technology Services and earned a silver medal.
- Gage Boggs competed in Culinary Arts and won a silver medal. In addition, Gage earned his American Chef’s Federation credential.
- Jennifer Maldonado-Castro competed in Customer Service and won a gold medal.
“We are so proud of our students and the faculty and staff who advise them in their competitions,” said Brenda Reash, Carteret CC Foundation Executive Director. “I would also like to thank all of our donors who support the Foundation by attending events, and donating their time and money. The Foundation supports the students in this program financially by covering their travel and lodging expenses at each competition.”
Congratulations, students! Your hard work paid off!
