Visiting or just testing the waters?
We’re glad you’re here! Whether you’re visiting from another college or university, here for a summer class, or just want to take a course for personal enrichment we couldn’t be happier you chose Carteret CC. Students who wish to take a class without declaring a major or who don’t plan on completing a degree, diploma, or certificate from Carteret CC can be admitted as Special Credit/Visiting (non-degree seeking) students.
Are you…
- Visiting from another college or university?
- Taking summer courses to transfer back to your primary college or university?
- Taking courses for personal enrichment?
- Taking courses to meet program requirements at another college or university?
If you answered yes to any of the above, then you may apply as a visiting/special credit student.
Step 1: Determine State Residency
This MUST be done first as you’ll need the Residency Certification Number for the admissions application. Click the link below to access the NC RDS website and fill out the form. Remember to write down your RCN when they assign it!
For additional information, contact RDS at [email protected] or call (919)835-2290.
Step 2: Complete Your Application
Do you have your Residency Certification Number? Good – you’re ready for step two. Click below to visit the CFNC website and complete the Carteret CC application.
ATTENTION - Students who do not intend to complete a degree, diploma or certificate from Carteret Community College should apply as “Special Credit/Non-Degree Seeking” students. Carteret CC assumes no responsibility for determining a student’s course selection when the credits are to be transferred elsewhere. It is the special credit student’s responsibility to confirm course transferability. It is assumed that advising is done with the visiting student’s home institution.
Step 3: Find Your Classes
Search offered courses. Please note: Special Credit students may be required to provide an unofficial transcript to show completion of course prerequisites.
Step 4: Activate Your Student Email
After you have been admitted to Carteret CC, you’ll receive an acceptance letter (and email) mailed to the address included on your application with your new student username and email. Activate your Student Email account to get important official communication about the college and your classes.
Step 5: Register for Classes
Visit the MAPS Center to register for classes for the first time, or contact your academic advisor.
Step 6: Pay for Classes
Don't get dropped from your classes – know when tuition is due! Carteret CC offers a variety of ways to keep college affordable, including financial aid, scholarships, and work-study opportunities. You can also set up a payment plan to help manage the cost of tuition.
