Step 1: Activate Your Student Email

After you have been admitted to Carteret CC, you’ll receive an acceptance letter (and email) mailed to the address included on your application with your new student username and email. Activate your Student Email account to get important official communication about the college and your classes.

Step 2: Determine Course Placement

Carteret Community College uses high school GPA or GED test scores to determine placement. Students with GED scores older than 2014 will be placed in transition courses unless the student chooses to take the placement test. A student can take the placement test in order to achieve higher placement in English in Math if they are not satisfied with how their high school GPA or GED scores placed them.

For more information or to schedule a placement test, visit or contact the MAPS Center at [email protected] or call (252) 222-6236.

Step 3: Attend Orientation

These orientations are encouraged for all first-time college students who will be attending Carteret CC. Orientation covers important student tools, tips for success, and the benefits of being a Carteret CC Kraken – like campus resources, free tutoring, community connection, student organizations, and more!

Step 4: Clear Student Holds

Make sure there are no holds on your student account. To clear any holds, follow the instructions sent to your student email or provided within your Carteret Compass account. Holds on your account may prevent you from registering for classes.

Step 5: Register for Classes

Visit the MAPS Center to register for classes for the first time, or contact your academic advisor.

Step 6: Pay for Classes

Don't get dropped from your classes – know when tuition is due! Carteret CC offers a variety of ways to keep college affordable, including financial aid, scholarships, and work-study opportunities. You can also set up a payment plan to help manage the cost of tuition.
