Meeting Highlights

On Wednesday, August 14, 2024 the Carteret CC Board of Trustees met for their monthly meeting. Copies of board agenda packets and meeting minutes are available here. Here are a few highlights from the meeting:

  • Chair Darden recognized the service of out-going Trustee Mary Charles Jenkins and thanked her for her dedication and support of Carteret CC.
  • Dee Meshaw and Kelly Marek were appointed the the Board of Trustees by the NC House and Senate, respectively, to four-year terms; Mort Congleton was appointed by the Carteret County Commissioners and will be sworn in at the next meeting.
  • American Legion Post 99 and the Beaufort Woman’s Club both presented scholarship checks.

  • The Board, which had approved a policy making the federally mandated switch to 2024 Title IX Rules and Regulations on August 1 at its June meeting, was briefed by Amanda Bryant on a Kansas court injunction that prohibits Carteret Community College from implementing and enforcing the new rules. (Read more about this in the Board packet!) The 2020 Title IX rules and regulations will remain in effect until further notice.
  • Promoted and newly hired employees Scott Lane, Brandi McCullough, Patricia Janssen, Christopher Matthews, Lori Vinskus, Krissy Stewart-Horton, and Kim Miller were introduced to the Board.
  • Jonathan Tyndall presented information on the latest Performance Measures report from the NC Community College System Office. He plans to review the report in greater detail for faculty and staff in the next month or two. In the meantime, you can read the 2024 results here.
  • The Board approved the preliminary plan for the One-Door Renovation. This will allow the College to begin creating bid documents to advertise and undertake Phase I and II.
  • The Board approved renewing the College’s open-end design contract with Smith Sinnett until July 1, 2025.
