Savor Exclusive Wines at the First Annual Crystal Coast Wine Expo
Morehead City, N.C. (October 4, 2023) – Carteret Community College Foundation (Carteret CC Foundation) will host eastern North Carolina’s only wine expo on Nov. 4, 2023, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. North Carolina wineries and distributers are gathering at Carteret CC’s Hospitality & Culinary Arts Center to showcase their wines. Guests can spend an entire afternoon strolling from table to table tasting the best they have to offer.
“The College is excited to host this unique event that we plan to hold annually. The Crystal Coast Wine Expo will feature wines that you cannot find at the grocery store,” said Brenda Reash, Executive Director of Carteret CC Foundation. “Our exhibitors are curating an exclusive assortment of wines for our guests to enjoy.”
The wineries attending the expo are:
- NC Wines (with four wineries represented)
- Tryon Distributing
- MF Chappell Wine Merchants
- Queen of Wines
- Ocean South Imports
- Empire Distributers
- Advintage Distributing
This all-inclusive event includes unlimited tasting of specialty wines, and charcuterie and artisan cheeses made by Carteret CC Culinary Students and Beaufort Grocery. Guests can sample dozens of wines and then order favorites for holiday parties and gifts. There is no limit to how much wine guests are permitted to buy.
Tickets are required to enter the event and can be purchased at www.carteret.edu/wine. VIP ticket-holders will enjoy the privilege of entering the tasting one-hour early and gain access to the highly-regarded wines and wine experts.
The Crystal Coast Wine Expo also offers a Wine Academy featuring 30-minute classes presented by wine experts. Guests can choose to take as many as they can fit in or just one favorite.
“As an educational institution, we really wanted to offer an educational component to the event,” said Reash. “These classes are designed to be fun and accessible to everyone no matter how much you know about wine.”
The classes offered are:
- Intro to Sparkling Wines — Led by Brett Chappell of MF Chappell Wine Merchants, Certified Sommelier, Certified Wine Educator, and French Wine Scholar (FWS)
- Rediscover NC Wine — Led by Brianna Burns of NC Wine, Wine Marketing Specialist, NCDAS&CS (Level 4 WSET diploma in Wine and Spirits), French Wine Scholar (FWS), Italian Wine Scholar (IWS) and Certified Wine Educator.
- Intro to Port — Led by Wendi Oliver of Flowers and Designs by Ernest & Wine Shop, WSET2 (Level 2 WSET diploma in Wine and Spirits), Argentina Wine Specialist (AWS), Discovering Italian Wine (DIW)
- Intro to Mexican wines — Led by Steve Sommerville, President of Ocean South Imports, Certified Sommelier
- Old World Versus New World – Led by Jason Eure, WSET Level II (Level 2 WSET diploma in Wine and Spirits)
- Navigating Climate Change Challenge Through Sustainable Winemaking — Led by Markus Zaehringer, 6th generation owner of Zaehringer Vineyard in Germany
All proceeds from the Crystal Coast Wine Expo will be used to help fund equipment and supplies for Carteret Community College’s programs and to help students.
