Carteret Community College Barbering Academy Partners with D.R.E.A.M. Foundation to Give Students a Fresh Start for School
Free community event on August 22 will provide haircuts, school supplies, and support for local families.
This August, Carteret Community College is helping local children head back to school with confidence through a partnership that brings together education, service, and community.
On Saturday, August 22, from 12–3 p.m., the College’s Barbering Academy students will provide free haircuts during the D.R.E.A.M. Foundation of Eastern North Carolina’s annual Back-to-School Drive, hosted at the McGee Building on the Carteret Community College campus. Families attending the event will also receive free school supplies, while supplies last, and have access to community resources designed to help students begin the new school year prepared for success.
A Partnership That Gives Back
For Carteret Community College’s Barbering Academy students, the event is more than an opportunity to practice their craft. It gives them the chance to use the skills they’ve learned in the classroom to serve local families and make a meaningful impact in the community.
The event also allows students to experience the importance of community engagement—an essential part of building a successful career in barbering. Every haircut represents an opportunity to boost a child’s confidence as they prepare to walk through the school doors on the first day of class.

Founded by Carteret Alumni
The D.R.E.A.M. Foundation of Eastern North Carolina was founded by Carteret Community College alumni Bobby Chambers and Samar Yaghi, who have dedicated the past six years to serving families throughout eastern North Carolina. Through back-to-school supply drives, toy drives, neighborhood cleanups, and other outreach initiatives, the organization has built a reputation for creating opportunities, inspiring hope, and strengthening the community through service.
Their continued commitment to giving back reflects the values they developed as Carteret Community College students and demonstrates the lasting impact alumni can have on the communities they call home.
A Partnership with Lasting Impact
The relationship between Carteret Community College and the D.R.E.A.M. Foundation extends beyond this year’s Back-to-School Drive. The organization previously partnered with the College’s Small Business Center to help launch the For ME Networking Group, an initiative that ultimately helped the Small Business Center secure grant funding to expand and promote the College’s successful Small Business Saturday Holiday Markets.
By working together once again, the College and D.R.E.A.M. Foundation continue their shared mission of supporting local families and creating opportunities that strengthen the Carteret County community.
Supporting Students Before the First Day of School
Community members are encouraged to attend the event and support the D.R.E.A.M. Foundation’s mission by donating new school supplies or making a monetary contribution. Donation information and drop-off locations are available through the organization’s Facebook page.
Whether it’s a new backpack, fresh school supplies, or a confidence-boosting haircut, every act of kindness helps students begin the school year feeling prepared and supported.
