Morehead City, N.C. (Feb. 9, 2022) – Beaufort resident and first-time movie maker Betsy Bertram will premier her film “Captain Scott B and the Great Adventure” at Carteret Community College. The event will be held on February 17 at 6:30 p.m. in Joslyn Hall, and is free and open to the public. The film is part of Carteret Community College Foundation’s Sound Discoveries — A Film & Lecture Series sponsored by Cotton Moehrke Group at Morgan Stanley.
The film is a poignant father-daughter adventure story that takes audiences on a journey of the heart as Bertram follows the trail her deceased father left behind in his home videos and journals. Traveling from the mountains to the sea of North Carolina, Bertram explores life’s most vibrant ingredients — family, community, music, food, and a deep connection to nature, as she navigates the grief process and discovers the magic in each moment.
“This film, in combination with my book, is my way of turning grief into art,” stated Bertram. “It’s an offering to the trees that have guided me, as they did my dad, a lesson on how to die, an homage to the importance of adventure, a quest for the remembrance of everyday magic, and a reflection on the meaning of a life well-lived.”
The event will feature a special screening of the movie, including a discussion, question and answer period with the film’s producer and main subject, Betsy Bertram. Viewers will also enjoy Captain Scott B’s Cocoa Sponge Roll prepared by the Carteret CC Baking & Pastry program.
“We are pleased to showcase local talent like Betsy’s and to provide a filmmaker talkback for the viewers of this thoughtful documentary,” stated Dr. Tracy Mancini, President of Carteret Community College. “We hope that everyone can come out to see the film and enjoy a piece of her father’s Cocoa Sponge Roll.”
