Launch a rewarding career helping others feel better, move better, and live healthier. Carteret Community College’s Massage Therapy program provides the hands-on training, professional knowledge, and client-care skills needed to become a licensed Massage Therapist in North Carolina.

This comprehensive, two-part program—Massage Therapy I and Massage Therapy II—includes over 650 clock hours of applied learning. Students learn therapeutic massage theory, bodywork techniques, therapeutic touch, wellness principles, and professional practice standards used across clinical, spa, and rehabilitative settings.

Through guided instruction and extensive practice, you’ll build confidence in your ability to support clients across the lifespan using manipulation, methodical pressure, friction, kneading, and other evidence-informed massage techniques.

Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx) to pursue North Carolina Massage Therapist licensure.

Admission Requirements

To ensure student success and readiness for clinical practice, the Massage Therapy program requires the following:

Massage Therapy I

  • Must attend a mandatory program orientation
  • Must provide proof of required immunizations before the first day of class

Massage Therapy II

  • Successful completion of Massage Therapy I
  • Must attend a mandatory program orientation
  • Must provide proof of required immunizations before the first day of class

Course Descriptions

Massage Therapy I

Begin your journey into the healing arts with foundational training for future massage therapy practice. This course introduces:

  • Core concepts of therapeutic massage
  • The role of the massage therapist in various clinical settings
  • Beginning theory and bodywork techniques
  • The fundamentals of safe, effective therapeutic touch

Students learn how to provide client-centered care using manipulation, methodical pressure, friction, and kneading to support wellness and address alterations in health across the lifespan.

Notes to Students:
Attendance at orientation required. Proof of immunizations must be submitted before the first day of class.

Massage Therapy II

Advance your skills and prepare for professional practice through deeper exploration of bodywork, assessment, and therapeutic application.

Emphasis is placed on:

  • Enhanced bodywork theory and technique
  • Professional touch and therapeutic communication
  • Applying massage techniques to support client wellness or address functional concerns

This course builds upon Massage Therapy I and strengthens your readiness for work in direct client care.

Notes to Students:
Must successfully complete Massage Therapy I. Orientation attendance and immunization documentation are required before the first day of class.

Cosmetology

Carteret Community College’s Cosmetology program combines creativity and career preparation with competency-based training in a simulated salon environment, where students gain hands-on experience rooted in both scientific and artistic beauty principles.

From hair design and chemical processes to skin care, nail care, multicultural practices, and salon business skills, the curriculum builds confidence, technique, and client-ready professionalism for today’s fast-growing cosmetology industry.

Graduates are prepared to sit for the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts exam, opening doors to careers in salons, spas, studios, retail education, or even salon ownership—and eligible high school students can jumpstart their future through a dual-enrollment pathway that earns both college credit and Carnegie units.

Esthetics

The Esthetics Technology curriculum provides competency-based knowledge, scientific/artistic principles and hands-on fundamentals associated with the art of skin care.

The curriculum provides a simulated salon environment which enables students to develop manipulative skills. Course work includes instruction in all phases of professional Esthetics Technology, business/human relations, product knowledge, and other related topics.

Graduates should be prepared to take the N.C. Cosmetology State Board Licensing Exam and upon passing be licensed and qualify for employment in beauty and cosmetic/skin care salons, as a platform artist, and in related businesses.

Manicurist

Carteret CC’s Manicurist program prepares students for careers in the nail service industry with competency-based training that blends scientific and artistic principles in a simulated salon setting.

In just 16 weeks, students complete Manicurist I & II while gaining hands-on skills, product knowledge, and business and computer fundamentals to meet the NC Board of Cosmetic Arts 300-hour requirements.

Graduates are ready to take the N.C. Cosmetology State Board Licensing Exam and, once licensed, pursue employment in nail and beauty salons, as platform artists, or in related businesses. Learn More about turning your passion for nails into a career at Carteret CC.
