Natural Hair Care

Carteret Community College’s Natural Hair Care program provides comprehensive training in the art and science of natural hair care. Students will learn essential skills such as sanitation, bacteriology, disinfection, first aid, shampooing, draping, anatomy, and hair and scalp disorders, along with effective client consultation. Advanced techniques include twisting, wrapping, extending, locking, blow-drying, and thermal ironing.

Upon passing the state exam, graduates will become state-licensed and qualify for employment in beauty and nail salons, as platform artists, or in related businesses, opening doors to a variety of career opportunities in the beauty industry.

About the Program

Students must meet the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Arts 300 clock-hour/performance requirements and complete Natural Hair Care I and II courses to complete the Natural Hair Care program successfully. The program typically takes 14 weeks to complete.

Coursework includes instruction in all phases of a professional manicurist, business/computer principles, product knowledge, and other related topics.

Graduates should be prepared to take the North Carolina State Board Licensing Exam after successfully completing both Natural Hair Care I & II.
