What to Expect from Your Online Class

Online courses start and end in the same academic term as on-campus courses, with due dates for various assignments, tests, projects, etc. assigned by your instructor. All work must be completed by the end of the session in which you are registered.

Online courses are every bit as academically challenging as on-campus courses. You will cover the same course topics and objectives as the equivalent in-person class. Be prepared to spend more time reading and completing coursework, while staying motivated with good study habits.

Successful online students should expect to spend at least 2 to 3 hours each week for every credit hour of class time working on your assignments and studying. For example, if you are taking a 3-credit course, you should set aside a minimum of 6 to 9 hours per week. Many students find that online courses take just as much time, if not more, than on-campus classes and require a self-motivated study schedule.

Online students will need access to a computer with a reliable internet connection to review course materials, turn in assignments, and communicate with your instructor and classmates. Always check your course syllabus for any additional software or equipment requirements, such as a webcam, headset, or microphone. Students should have a basic knowledge of computer and internet skills in order to be successful in an online course.

If you need assistance using Moodle or experience a problem, contact the Distance Learning Help Desk.
