Diploma programs are designed to provide focused, entry-level training that can typically be completed in about one (1) year. These programs may stand alone or be structured within an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree pathway. Program Overview

The Cosmetology Instructor curriculum provides a course of study for learning the skills needed to teach the theory and practice of cosmetology as required by the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Arts. Course work requirements for becoming an instructor include introduction to teaching theory, methods and aids, practice teaching, and development of evaluation instruments.

Graduates of the program may be employed as cosmetology instructors in public or private education and business. This program is fall semester entrance only and does not have a summer term.

Certificate programs are short-term training options that can typically be completed in one (1) year or less. Carteret CC’s Barbering program prepares students for success in today’s grooming industry through 1,528 hours of hands-on training and classroom instruction.

Students build the technical skills, safety practices, professional habits, and business knowledge needed for state licensure exams and entry-level barbering careers. With a focus on modern barbering techniques and real-world readiness, graduates are equipped to thrive in barbershops and related career fields.

The Esthetics Technology curriculum provides competency-based knowledge, scientific/artistic principles and hands-on fundamentals associated with the art of skin care.

The curriculum provides a simulated salon environment which enables students to develop manipulative skills. Course work includes instruction in all phases of professional Esthetics Technology, business/human relations, product knowledge, and other related topics.

Graduates should be prepared to take the N.C. Cosmetology State Board Licensing Exam and upon passing be licensed and qualify for employment in beauty and cosmetic/skin care salons, as a platform artist, and in related businesses.

Manicurist

Carteret CC’s Manicurist program prepares students for careers in the nail service industry with competency-based training that blends scientific and artistic principles in a simulated salon setting.

In just 16 weeks, students complete Manicurist I & II while gaining hands-on skills, product knowledge, and business and computer fundamentals to meet the NC Board of Cosmetic Arts 300-hour requirements.
