English as a Second Language (ESL) is a FREE program is designed for adults whose native language is not English. Classes focus on English reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. All levels are welcome – from beginning to advanced. ESL classes help individuals develop English language proficiency to get a job or promotion, assist their children with schoolwork, better understand American culture and history, and become more active in their local community.

Program Requirements

  • Students must be at least 16 years old to enroll in any class.
  • Students must attend orientation.

Attendance Expectations

It is necessary that Carteret Community College students regularly attend their classes in order to learn. According to our Affiliation Agreement with Carteret County Public Schools, all Adult High School students must complete a certain number of hours per class. In order for a student to receive a credit, the student must be in class a specified number of hours; complete the individual class; and earn a passing grade of A, B, C, or D.
