Board of Trustees Meeting
October 9, 2024
Meeting Highlights
On Wednesday, October 9, 2024 the Carteret CC Board of Trustees met for their monthly meeting in Wayne West 215 so they could also tour the Health Sciences Simulation Center. Copies of board agenda packets and meeting minutes are available here. Here are a few highlights from the meeting:
- The meeting began with a check presentation by Pastor Nate Leonard and members of his congregation for $70,000 to establish a Suellen Leonard Scholarship in memory of the pastor’s wife and our former sewing and calligraphy instructor. Pastor Leonard’s remarks were powerful; he expressed hope and faith that good can come from tragedy.
- Dr. Mancini introduced the College’s new Director of IT, Curtis Gillikin, and he introduced IT Technicians Nic McGee and Ethan Lynk to the Board.
- The Board unanimously approved the design/build team of Daniels & Daniels Construction and Moseley Architects to begin work on the Workforce Center for Construction Trades and Transportation Technology. Once a contract is approved by the State Construction Office, the team will begin meeting with faculty to begin the planning process.
- Dr. Mancini updated the trustees on the focus groups that had taken place for our 2025-2030 strategic plan; reminded them that we currently have Goellner Interns in France; and informed them that Carteret CC will be implementing Fund Five soon – a new registration system for Workforce Continuing Education students. Please take the time to review the minutes from last month’s meeting, Dr. Mancini’s full report, and other reports from senior leaders so you have a more complete understanding of all that is happening on campus.
- The meeting ended with an excellent tour of the Health Sciences Simulation Center, led by Dean Laurie Freshwater, Experiential Learning Coordinator Christine Turner, and two of our Associate Degree Nursing Students, all of whom gave up some of their fall break (thank you!). The trustees were impressed by the new setup and equipment, but especially by the knowledgeable faculty and students.
