First in the State

Carteret Community College participated in a Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) pilot program aimed at providing a more well-rounded, diverse learning environment for aspiring law enforcement officers. As an innovative and collaborative partnership between the North Carolina Department of Justice (NCDOJ) and the North Carolina Justice Academy (NCJA) the program increased Carteret CC’s existing BLET program by 240 hours from a total of 640 to approximately 880 hours.

On August 22, 2024, Carteret CC’s BLET evening cohort was the first pilot program in the state to sit for the state exam, achieving a remarkable 100% passing rate. This success culminated in a celebratory graduation ceremony where six dedicated men and women marked the successful completion of rigorous training and journey toward a career in law enforcement.
