Carteret CC Board of Trustees Announce Barwick Award Recipient
Morehead City, N.C. (May 3, 2023) – Carteret Community College Board of Trustees proudly announces Mr. Kurt Rogerson as the recipient of the 2024 Dr. Joseph T. Barwick Civic Award for his exceptional service, steadfast support, and unwavering commitment to Carteret County.
Kurt Rogerson is a familiar name in our community, known for his dedication and active involvement. Serving as the current Chairman of the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce, he has played a pivotal role in driving economic growth and supporting local businesses.
Rogerson’s contributions extend beyond his role in the Chamber of Commerce. He has served as the former President of the Carteret County Association of Realtors, advocating for homeownership rights and fostering a thriving real estate market. Additionally, his leadership in the Ole Town Beaufort Rotary has made a significant impact through community service projects and outreach efforts.
“I am deeply honored to receive the 2024 Dr. Joseph T. Barwick Civic Award from Carteret Community College,” expressed Mr. Rogerson upon receiving news of the award. “I am committed to serving our community, and I look forward to continuing to make a positive impact in Carteret County.”
Rogerson’s commitment to philanthropy shines through his involvement on the Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors, where he works tirelessly to provide affordable housing solutions to those in need.
In 2023, Rogerson was honored with the Realtor of the Year Award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the real estate industry.
“Mr. Rogerson is a worthy recipient of the Barwick Award,” said Melodie Darden, Chair of the Carteret CC Board of Trustees. “Others describe him as tireless and passionate in his efforts. He sets examples for others to follow. We are honored to showcase his many positive contributions to our community.”
The Carteret Community College Board of Trustees established the Dr. Joseph T. Barwick Civic Award in honor of the college’s third president, Joe Barwick, who retired in 2009 after 10 years of service with the college and nearly 40 years with the State of North Carolina. The award celebrates individuals like Dr. Barwick, whose dedication and selflessness embody the spirit of civic engagement and community service.
Kurt Rogerson is the fourteenth recipient of the award since 2010. Other recipients include: Joan Lamson, Dr. Tom Steepy, Rodney Kemp, Leonard Safrit, John Capps, Bernie Whalley, Gene McLendon, Ann Goellner, John Smith, Dr. Mary Katherine Lawrence & Dr. Art Klose, Big Rock Charity Committee, and Janet Eshleman.
The Board of Trustees will honor Mr. Kurt Rogerson at the college’s upcoming Awards ceremony scheduled for Thursday, May 9th at 6 p.m.
