Center of Excellence for Maritime Workforce Training and Education

Carteret Community College is a 2021 Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education (CoE) as designated by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Maritime Administration.

The Maritime Administration (MARAD) developed the CoE Program to support maritime workforce training and education at designated CoEs, including efforts of the designees to: admit additional students; recruit and train faculty; expand facilities; create new maritime pathways; and, award students credit for prior experience, including military service.

CoE designees are committed to assisting the maritime industry in obtaining and maintaining a high quality and diverse workforce.

At Carteret Community College

The North Carolina Marine Training and Education Center (NC MARTEC) is the only comprehensive marine technology training facility in the Mid Atlantic region. The state-of-the-art facility is located on the Carteret Community College campus in Morehead City, North Carolina. Our facility is on the shores of the beautiful Bogue Sound — part of the Atlantic Intercoastal Waterway. Maritime programs offered at Carteret CC include aquaculture, boat manufacturing, diesel, USCG credentialing, and welding.

Students are provided a comprehensive course of study in the methods, materials, and professionalism required of today’s marine industry. Integrating demonstrations and hands-on projects each of our programs achieves the proper balance of theoretical and practical knowledge for employment and long-term career success.

The 23,000 square feet NC MARTEC facility has classrooms and workshops equipped to provide state-of-the-art training for those who yearn for a rewarding, dynamic and challenging career in the marine manufacturing and service industries.
