A Very Merry, RAD Christmas It’s a very merry, RAD Christmas indeed! This holiday season the Carteret CC Radiography class of 2023 partnered with Home Instead, a senior care agency which assists senior residents in Carteret, Craven, and Pamlico counties. The class sponsored a “Be a Santa to a Senior” Christmas tree on campus. The tree featured ornament tags with seniors’ names and their wishes for Christmas. The class encouraged faculty and staff to participate and had an overwhelming response. Home Instead was asked to replenish name tags four times over the course of three weeks. The class was able to fulfill over 70 Christmas wishes! This humbling act of service will put a smile on everyone’s face just in time for Christmas. Carteret CC Celebrates National First-Generation College Student Day On Monday, November 8, Carteret Community College and the TRIO program will celebrate National First-Generation College Student Day to commemorate the passing of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (HEA) and celebrate first-generation students, graduates, faculty, and staff. The Higher Education Act of 1965 was passed to assist students who come from low-income and minority backgrounds in earning a college degree. Carteret CC Offers Local Employer Team Building Workshop Morehead City, N.C. (September 23, 2021) – Carteret Community College Corporate and Community Education sponsored a day long, interactive team building class for Rogers & Company, CPA and 30 of its employees. The purpose of the workshop was to create an awareness of behavioral characteristics of effective team collaboration. During one exercise, employees participated in a fun culinary challenge where they were divided into teams and made homemade pizza. Each team was responsible for preparing the dough and sauce from scratch with minimal help from college instructors.  The exercise mimicked real-life teamwork challenges to demonstrate what it takes to create and maintain a harmonious and productive work environment. SMALL BUSINESS CENTER OFFERS MICRO LOAN PROGRAM Morehead City, N.C. (August 26, 2021) – The Carteret Community College Small Business Center has established a Micro Loan Program in collaboration with the First Rung Foundation to provide seed capital to entrepreneurs leading startup or early-stage businesses in Carteret County.  Low-interest loans up to $10,000 are available for business-related costs such as space, inventory, equipment, advertising, marketing, and technology. "We are very excited to partner with FirstRung on this exciting initiative," said Vice President of Corporate and Community Education Perry Harker. "Access to capital is a challenge for many of our small start-ups and this partnership will help many overcome this challenge." Carteret CC Receives Pelican Award for Living Shoreline Project Morehead City, N.C. (August 19, 2021) – On August 7, 2021, Carteret Community College was presented with a Pelican Award for Outstanding Leadership Supporting Living Shorelines at the North Carolina Coastal Federation’s annual awards celebration held at the Crystal Coast Civic Center. Carteret Community College one of 11 coastal stewards to receive a Pelican Award. The Pelican Awards recognize individuals, businesses and government agencies that have shown exemplary coastal stewardship. In addition, Scout BSA member Ryan Mroch of Troop 446 was awarded a Junior Pelican Award for his leadership and volunteer efforts with the project. Gaitan Receives Governor’s NCWorks Award Morehead City, N.C. (July 21, 2021) – Carteret Community College graduate Makayla Gaitan is the recipient of the 2021 Governor’s NC Works Award of Distinction in the category of Outstanding Young Adult. The award recognizes young adults who have been involved in a publicly funded NC workforce service or program and have demonstrated exceptional achievement to attain career-related goals.
