Construction Academy Pays Students $750 Morehead City, N.C. (June 8, 2023) – Carteret Community College adds an eight-week work-based learning Construction Academy to its trades course offerings. The academy will focus on core construction competencies including applied hands-on skills, industry safety standards, and soft skills training. Participants in the academy will also earn a $750 stipend upon successful completion of week four. In December of 2022, legislative action allocated $775,000 to the North Carolina Community College System to develop eight-week work-based construction academies on campuses where there is a demand to create or expand existing construction programs. NCET Project Wins $1M NSF Engines Development Award Multi-institutional collaboration will use ‘Ecotech’ to help coastal communities   (MOREHEAD CITY, NORTH CAROLINA, MAY 31, 2023) – Carteret Community College is a partner institution in the North Carolina Ecosystem Technology project that has been awarded $1 million from the U.S. National Science Foundation's Regional Innovation Engines, or NSF Engines program. The project will develop an economic engine that could rapidly improve the quality of life in rural coastal communities using ecosystem technology, or ecotech, an emerging branch of applied science. NCET is among more than 40 unique teams to receive one of the first-ever NSF Engines Development Awards, which aim to create economic, societal and technological opportunities in their regions. Juneteenth Small Business Vendor Market Morehead City, N.C. (May 30, 2023) – Carteret Community College in collaboration with the Small Business Center and the For ME Networking Group will host a special Juneteenth Small Business Vendor Market on June 17th from 11am – 3pm. The event will feature a variety of vendors selling unique products and services, including handmade crafts, jewelry, clothing, and accessories, as well as food and beverages from local chefs and restaurants. Renewable Energy Program Pays Students to Attend Morehead City, N.C. (May 30, 2023) – Carteret Community College adds a Renewable Energy program to its construction trades course offerings and offers students $10/hour during class time.  The training will focus on wind energy and electrical systems.  This training program will help community members develop the knowledge needed to stay abreast of North Carolina’s growing clean energy initiative on a corporate and residential level. “We are excited about possibilities this new program will bring to our area,” said Carteret CC Vice President Perry Harker. “While this initiative is new to the region, we are looking forward to training future workers for an industry that not only has huge growth potential and proven environmental benefits, but also the student to develop work skills that is applicable in various construction jobs.” The...

2023 New Century Workforce Scholar Named Morehead City, N.C. (May 3, 2023) – Shana Tamminga, a student at Carteret Community College, has been named a 2023 New Century Workforce Scholar and will receive a $1,250 scholarship. This scholarship is the first of its kind to support students at associate degree-granting institutions on a national scale as they plan to enter the workforce upon the completion of a degree or certificate. The program is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. 2023 Student Art Exhibition On Wednesday, April 26th, Carteret CC will host a reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. during its annual Art Exhibition in the Hospitality & Culinary Arts Center. The reception is open to the public and will feature student work from Ceramics, Culinary, 2D-Design, 3D-Design, Drawing, Digital Design, Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Woodworking, and Artistic Welding. Renewable Energy Symposium How do you plan to celebrate Earth Week? What better way than to learn more about renewable energy! On Thursday, April 20th from 1-6 p.m., Carteret Community College is co-sponsoring a Renewable Energy Symposium with the NC Sierra Club and NC Interfaith Power and Light. Third Installment in “Carteret Links” Lecture Series Morehead City, N.C.
