Carteret CC Receives Pelican Award for Living Shoreline Project Morehead City, N.C. (August 19, 2021) – On August 7, 2021, Carteret Community College was presented with a Pelican Award for Outstanding Leadership Supporting Living Shorelines at the North Carolina Coastal Federation’s annual awards celebration held at the Crystal Coast Civic Center. Carteret Community College one of 11 coastal stewards to receive a Pelican Award. The Pelican Awards recognize individuals, businesses and government agencies that have shown exemplary coastal stewardship. In addition, Scout BSA member Ryan Mroch of Troop 446 was awarded a Junior Pelican Award for his leadership and volunteer efforts with the project. Gaitan Receives Governor’s NCWorks Award Morehead City, N.C. (July 21, 2021) – Carteret Community College graduate Makayla Gaitan is the recipient of the 2021 Governor’s NC Works Award of Distinction in the category of Outstanding Young Adult. The award recognizes young adults who have been involved in a publicly funded NC workforce service or program and have demonstrated exceptional achievement to attain career-related goals. Respiratory Therapy Program Receives Award Morehead City, N.C. (July 8, 2021) – On June 29, 2021, the Carteret Community College Respiratory Therapy program was awarded the Distinguished Registered Respiratory Therapist Credentialing Success Award from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). FREE Tuition for Eligible 2021 High School Graduates at Carteret CC Morehead City, N.C. (June 14, 2021) – Carteret Community College will provide two years of free tuition for eligible 2021 high school graduates as part of the Longleaf Commitment Grant. An initiative announced on May 14, 2021 from the Governor’s office after historic drops in North Carolina’s higher education system in 2020. The statewide grant program is available at all 58 community colleges starting in the fall of 2021 with the goal of ensuring high school students do not fall out of the education pipeline. High school students may be eligible to receive this grant – not a loan – for tuition and fees toward a degree or to attain transfer credit. Grand Opening of the North Carolina Military Business Center at Carteret CC Morehead City, N.C. College Named As A Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education Morehead City, N.C. (May 24, 2021) – Carteret Community College (Carteret CC) was designated by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) as a Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education (CoE) for 2021. The CoE designation recognizes community colleges and training institutions that prepare students for careers in our nation’s maritime industry.
