Therapeutic massage achieves 100% When the 2020 therapeutic massage graduates began the program in August 2019, their studies were interrupted by Hurricane Dorian. The last eight weeks of their final semester produced even greater educational struggles with the COVID-19 pandemic. In spite of those disruptions, the graduating class managed to complete all of their courses and achieve a 100 percent first-attempt passing rate on the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination, the North Carolina State Board licensing examination for massage therapists. Students Encouraged to Apply for COVID-19 Grant Funds Carteret Community College continues to serve its students and the community during the Coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this year, the College was the recipient of CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief funding to help students who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19. The College received approximately $387,000 to provide emergency financial aid grants to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19. Eligible expenses include a student’s cost of attendance, food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care. Carteret CC Signs MOU with WGU North Carolina Carteret Community College has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with WGU North Carolina, an affiliate of Western Governors University to create a transfer pathway for graduates transferring to WGU North Carolina to complete their bachelor’s degrees. The agreement establishes the principles that several articulated associate degrees at Carteret Community College will transfer to WGU North Carolina. Articulated program areas include business, accounting, education, information technology, and nursing. “This is an amazing opportunity for our students,” said Dr. Tracy Mancini, President of Carteret Community College. “We are so excited to offer our students another pathway to continue their education. Ramsey selected for Distinguished Alumni Award The Carteret Community College Foundation has awarded Randy Ramsey with the 2020 Carteret Community College Distinguished Alumni Award. The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes a Carteret Community College graduate who has exhibited exceptional volunteer or career leadership and personal character. Ramsey graduated from Carteret Community College with his diploma in Marine Diesel Mechanics in 1981. “I am honored to have been selected and very much appreciate the Board’s consideration,” said Ramsey. “I am a proud alum and personally know how Carteret Community College can change lives.” Ramsey is the Co-founder and president of Jarrett Bay Boatworks and is also a partner and board member of Bluewater Yacht Sales. Lt. Commander Bill Geraty | 1999 Graduate Navy Lt. Commander Bill Geraty, class of 1999 , completed his AAS degree in Paralegal Technology while serving in the Marine Corp as a court reporter. Geraty went on to earn his undergraduate degree and then served as an instructor at the Naval Justice School in Newport, RI. While teaching at Naval Justice he attended Roger Williams School of Law on full scholarship and earned a law degree. After passing the Connecticut bar exam he accepted a commission in the US Navy where he joined the JAG Corps. As a JAG officer Geraty was deployed to Afghanistan where he trained Afghani legal professionals.
